I closed lots of them. But when I finished there were actually more than when I began.
People always say ADHD is a superpower. It some ways it is. But in other ways it’s a lot of WTF moments.

I think we're supposed to think that Rich is rude and Sam is being treated badly, but I can't see it like that. Rich obviously had a plan to only meet Andy, and Sam is just imposing himself on Rich when he's told no.
I mean Rich could have been more tactful and polite, definitely, but Sam should have just taken no for an answer! Also, I think yes the world would be better if people were more honest!

I only have 64k of RAM. Someone was informed that that was enough for anyone, so that's all I got. That's why I find it so hard to retain and process information.
I need to be able to write to disk to be able to learn. I did get a lot of disk space though!
It's why I did well at school, but I'm really struggling with on the job learning with bike repair. Not enough RAM!
It's why I have such difficulty navigating, because I can remember one turn, and that's it. The next turn will push the first one out my memory. Not enough RAM!
It's probably why I suck with learning faces. Not enough RAM!
I wonder what operating system I run on? SoloOS, maybe. I hope that's not already a Linux distro.

It's not like one can ask the hypothetical abuser. They will deny it. Is learning about the patterns of narcissistic abuse and subsequently recognizing them as how they show up in one's lived experience the best one can do?
I find that a very unsatisfactory conclusion but it does seem like the best one can do. I probably lived in a relationship with at least narcissistic abuse patterns. And the unsolvable ambiguity of it all bothers me.
@alexocado@tech.lgbtI feel this must be a deeply autistic experience: the disbelief when people actually try to convince you that they didn't mean what they said. And I'm not talking subtext, I'm talking about the grammatical meaning of their verbatim words and sentences.
And then you ask them to clarify and through a convoluted sequence of justifications they end up at "see? And this is why I couldn't possibly have meant this!".
Like wat? Why did you say/write it then in the first place? So fucking confusing. But maybe the explanation really is that autistic people choose their words much more carefully. It's certainly our lived experience.

@DrALJONES Autistic people also often lack empathy or experience it in non-standard ways, but I'm doubtful that many would be comfortable with similar stigmatization applied towards autism.
Supposed "proper" neurotypical people have repeatedly demonstrated an incredible lack of care towards others in recent time. Mass support of genocide, increasing support of fascism, increasing misogyny and transmisia. The more longstanding and near universal support for carnism among "normal" people is a desert of empathy or conscience.
People like Elon Musk are not unique. Should they be removed from power? Yes. Will removing them from power remove the capitalist and white supremacist systems that produced them? No.
For so long as such systems of oppression exist, power will be rewarded to oppressors for their continued participation and support of those oppressive systems. People like Elon Musk or Trump can be replaced like the heads on a hydra. Voting someone who is not disordered, who is not a "psychopath" into power will not challenge this; because, the issue is not clinical, it is not that the wrong people are in power, but rather the very systems of power which people have been indoctrinated into.

I was expecting a similar result to the other faces test. Man. I was honestly surprised when I got some of them wrong. I was sure I had it. I mean, I see Padmé on an almost daily basis (memes!) and I got Natalie Portman wrong.
@actuallyautistic @joelle I agree. Apparently my doctor told my mum he suspected I had Aspergers (as it was then) when I was fifteen. She kept that to herself and maintained I had all these issues because someone had put black magic on me.
It wasn't until my late twenties when I learnt about Aspergers properly. If I had known at fifteen, I could have got my diagnosis, I could have got support (maybe) and at least not spent another 12 years hating myself and wondering why I just couldn't fix myself and be like the other women.
Autistic community, tell me where are you at with "high functioning labels" and the term "Asperger" why are you against these or for them?

Given the climate in the US, it might be worth considering whether a professional diagnosis is better than a self diagnosis. Weigh up the pros and cons.
I found this list to be useful. Copy it into a word processor or print it off and highlight all the ones you see in yourself. I did that, and got my ex to highlight what he saw in me. Before that I did used to doubt, but seeing that made me realise that I do have a lot of autistic traits (already got fobbed off once when trying for a diagnosis years ago, so I'm trying again).

There's also the raads-r test and a few other good ones on Embrace Autism, and idrlabs.com has a few that give you a cool pie chart. I find the AQ ones to be meh, the questions are too open for interpretation, but my GP required it before he could refer me.
@alexocado@tech.lgbtThe hardest part about unmasking is developing the courage and resilience to act against the interest of another person (usually by upholding a personal boundary you've ignored so far) and to then strike the right balance in determining who deserves an explanation (because they actually want to listen) and who is a lost cause and just wants you to admit that you're wrong.
It's a really odd thing to go through when so far you've tried to please everyone. Who are you to put your judgement over the judgement of other people?

#vaccines save lives. There is 0 link with vaccines and autism.But even if there were, if you'd rather your child have #polio than autism, you shouldn't have kids at all.
