One effect from my #LateDiagnosis of #AuDHD that I hadn't expected: having spent all my life hating myself for not being 'normal' enough, I now find myself also feeling guilty for not being #autistic enough AND for not thriving as a #neurodivergent person.
Complicated business, this life thing.
My #ADHD traits are so much more pronounced when I'm exhausted.
I can barely hold a thought for longer than 30 seconds today.
Back in 2002 I landed in the ER twice due to what I now know was #neurodivergent burnout. They shrugged and turned me away. It took months to recover.
It's 2025 and I'm more tired now than I was then. Last week's "I can't diagnose you with #ADHD because it's too complicated" pretty much gutted me.
But there are deadlines and commitments looming so on we go somehow.
The system is a gong show.
Some people are so _poisonous_ that not even understanding them is an effective _antidote_.
I've made two modifications to the Neuroqueer Meetings. These are meetings held face to face in the Hyattsville, MD area.
1. From now on, when the weather permits it, we will hold picnics in a park. When the weather does not permit it, we will hold meetings at a restaurant.
2. I've created a Signal group to inform attendees about what's going on. You need to join the group to get latest.

Foof!
Hey, at least now I know all the ways I went wrong in life.
How does one recognize whether or not what one experienced was narcissistic abuse?
It's not like one can ask the hypothetical abuser. They will deny it. Is learning about the patterns of narcissistic abuse and subsequently recognizing them as how they show up in one's lived experience the best one can do?
I find that a very unsatisfactory conclusion but it does seem like the best one can do. I probably lived in a relationship with at least narcissistic abuse patterns. And the unsolvable ambiguity of it all bothers me.
Aha!
These ‘48 laws of power’ could go some way to explaining why autistics don’t do very well socially...

New Podcast! Please do check it out!
Please nobody tell me Bill Dodson is problematic. I've listened to a 2-part interview with him on the Neurodiversity Podcast about RSD and he's so smart and compassionate.
And I love how he voices his frustration with the outdated diagnostic criteria in the US (and Canada).
Here's the podcast if anyone's curious:
Really interesting article about what it's like to grow up with undiagnosed autism, have a successful corporate career while feeling dead inside, and becoming a speech language pathologist only to find out that "social skills" training for autistic and neurodivergent kids is worse than useless. #autism #neurodivergent

I feel this must be a deeply autistic experience: the disbelief when people actually try to convince you that they didn't mean what they said. And I'm not talking subtext, I'm talking about the grammatical meaning of their verbatim words and sentences.
And then you ask them to clarify and through a convoluted sequence of justifications they end up at "see? And this is why I couldn't possibly have meant this!".
Like wat? Why did you say/write it then in the first place? So fucking confusing. But maybe the explanation really is that autistic people choose their words much more carefully. It's certainly our lived experience.

Yet again, my partner fails at an interview for a proofreading job she is massively qualified to do because she is somewhat #neurodivergent and struggles to think on her feet.. The feedback is always the same, use the STAR model but no matter how much she prepares she can't do interviews... But she makes her (meagre) living as a proofreader and people often say she is the best proofreader they've had... Why doesn't that matter more and what is she supposed to do? I'm devastated #neurodiversity
Shouldn't post this, will likely delete later. Got my not-typical brain formally assessed but the NP said because it's complicated she's not qualified to offer any help.
Not remotely surprised, tbh. It's the theme of a lifetime.
The system here is beyond broken, so finding someone who can tease everything apart and offer real, thoughtful, minimally biased support is next to zero.
I really wish I wasn't dealing with this in the horror show of 2025.
Meanwhile, a living must be made, because there's a cat who is absolutely everything.
