The evolution of the F-15 Selective Jettison knob over the past 50 years.

The 15A allows manual selection for each pylon as well as automated Combat, Rack, Pylon, & Stores options.

The 15C/E/EX all feature 7 options including OFF, with the E/EX variant having a slight difference in positioning.

There’s just something about plane corpses that really speak to me.

Relics of a bygone era. The memory of their time soaring through in the skies slowly fading with the passage of time. With the loss of each airframe we loose a piece of history. Power made meek. Permanence made impermanent.

Here’s one more. This is a black-and-white photo from below of a Soviet MiG-19PM carrying four guided ‘beam-riding’ RS-2U air-to-air missiles. Judging from the darkness of the sky above this was probably taken while flying near its service ceiling of 17,500 m.

Since I’m currently trialling the MiG-19P in #DCS I decided to look up some nice pics of the MiG-19 and Shenyang J-6/F-6.

I have to say these few are some of the coolest of the plane in service I’ve come across. Really showcases what the MiG is all about.

#TIL the external travel pod equipped to F-16 fighter jets are actually old hollowed-out Mark 77 napalm incendiary bombs.

Incendiary bombs saw extensive use during the Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf Wars to horrific effect. However, this Mark 77 has since been retired to a life of carrying luggage and other goods for pilots. What a silly way to reuse a bomb.

I recently discovered that there’s an AV-8B+ Harrier II flying out of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake with VX-9 [en.wikipedia.org] and VX-31 [en.wikipedia.org]. I didn’t know the Harrier II was still in active service given how old the birds are now.

Pretty rad knowing there’s some Harriers out in the rugged Coso Volcanic Field [en.wikipedia.org] doing training flights like something out of Star Wars.
