DOSBox Staging v0.82.1 has been released
The main focus of this maintenance release is to fix a couple of regressions introduced in 0.82.0 and older releases, mostly related to game compatibility. The other big improvement is the CPU usage of the 3dfx Voodoo emulation has been reduced by about 50%, so your computer won’t go into hoover-mode anymore when playing those Voodoo games

While I think the game prices are still a bit high - Turns out with taking inflation into account the Switch was $299 in 2017 which in today's US Dollars is ~$395.
So my main discomfort with the #Switch2 is the OPSEC of adding a listening device in my home that I cannot control. I wish the mic was not built in and just came as part of the camera accessory. Especially with how litigious Nintendo is - I would not put it past them to listen for talk about #roms #emulation and other things they don't like.
The AYANEO Pocket Micro (Classic), I've been talking about. Arrived this week, and I gotta admit... this is top-tier product design and build quality. Review on @overkillwtf soon!
By the way, I’ve fallen headfirst into the retro gaming rabbit hole thanks to the AYANEO Pocket Micro. Bought an Anbernic RG35XX H a day later and spent yesterday's whole evening with @retrogamecorps's shader guide. What have I done?
I'm trying to figure out the best DOS configuration for emulation and maybe real hardware, too. Right now, I am considering IBM DOS 5.02 upgraded to PC DOS 7 Rev. 1 (2000). You get an IBM branded DOS-Editor, but still all the nice tools from the future, like DELTREE.EXE, DEFRAG, PC DOS-Shell 7.0 or Windows Undelete. Seems to be the best overall DOS package...
Any other ideas / suggestions?

New version of MAME out - version 0.276
Aaaaa, got finally my N64 emulator to get across the CIC's IPL3 stage (where they check that the cartridge wasn't temparated with by checksumming the first 1MB) by fixing the ADD and ADDU instructions xD Now it wants to access the functions of the first coprocessor (or CP1) that is the floatingpoint unit.... which has funny features like all it's registers are accessible from the outside as raw integers, having "dynamically" sized registers by a flip of a single bit in a systems register of CP0, and also multi-cycle instructions *sigh*
Can't wait till I will implement all of this again in FPGA hardware / verilog lmao xDDDD....
Emulation manager EmuDeck 2.4 brings Steam library integration changes, improved BIOS checker https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/03/emulation-manager-emudeck-2-4-brings-steam-library-integration-changes-improved-bios-checker/
the "HD mode" in #lemuroid makes mobile suit #gundam seed battle assault for the #gba almost look like it's cell shaded. it was a bit offputting at first but it's kinda grown on me to the point that when I play the original, it seems kind of wrong. #retrogaming #android #handhelds #emulation
I am *really* impressed with how the artists tackled this situation. This is from Game and Watch Gallery 2 for GB and GBC. In GBC mode, it uses color to indicate how well done the food is, but in GB mode there's obviously not enough colors to do that, so instead they use shading: white means undercooked, black means overcooked, shaded means just right.
And then! They also drew a _background_ for this!
"Aren't you already using all four colors for the food?"
"It's fine, we'll just put a black outline around every foreground object, and then draw a background that doesn't use any black."
Genius.
MartyPC's SN76489 emulation shaping up.
Nowhere near final, as I need to take some recordings off my Tandy 1000, tweak and adjust until it sounds identical, but it's always nice when your sound emulation stops screeching at you and starts to sound - well, like sound.
Anyone else suspect the noise channel is a bit too quiet?
I was able to get an instance of System 7 running in Basilisk 2 on both my Macbook Air and Mac Mini to connect to each other using AppleTalk!
1) Basilisk 2 preferences must have udptunnel set to true
and udpport set to the same port on all Basilisk 2 instances.
2) The Control Panel Sharing Setup must have File Sharing configured and started.
3) Guest user should have Allow guests to connect checked.
Thanks @oevl, you inspired me with your post last night.
Anyone using QEMU and know how to get it to trap the CMD key (on your keyboard)? It's annoying not be able able to use any CMD key combos as those seem to go to the real OSX system not the emulation in QEMU... #macintosh #emulation #marchintosh

Another thing I wanted to share out of the stuff on my Switch:
I've been using emulators since forever, but this is still, by far, the best emulation collection release I have ever seen. The whole interface is amazing. You're comfortably in your room as quiet ambient sounds come in from outside (in day you hear cars quietly passing by and birds) with game posters on the walls and such and a shelf full of Genesis/Megadrive games that it actually puts IN a console shown on screen, then it plays on a TV on screen. (It can be set to load games directly in fullscreen which I recommend, but it was neater to show it merely zooming in on the virtual TV for the clip.)
