Okay now we're getting somewhere
Aaaaa, got finally my N64 emulator to get across the CIC's IPL3 stage (where they check that the cartridge wasn't temparated with by checksumming the first 1MB) by fixing the ADD and ADDU instructions xD Now it wants to access the functions of the first coprocessor (or CP1) that is the floatingpoint unit.... which has funny features like all it's registers are accessible from the outside as raw integers, having "dynamically" sized registers by a flip of a single bit in a systems register of CP0, and also multi-cycle instructions *sigh*
Can't wait till I will implement all of this again in FPGA hardware / verilog lmao xDDDD....
Well um I don't have anything too exciting this week, but hey at least I have a WIP UI! It's something!
Just watched a video where some madlad archieved a mario bros 3 tas in a couple microseconds [www.youtube.com] by inventing a completly new form of #TAS : the cartidgeswapping tas, where they simply swapped the cartridge with CPU cycle pricision to write code into the #NES console! Just awesome what we can achieve when we just try hard enough xDDDD
... And it got me thinking to maybe attempt something similar for either the #SNES or #N64 lmao!
Nintendo
Thinking about modding my #nintendoswitch (have an OLED, so the fusee-gelee exploit dosnt work), but I'm very conflicted.
So I'm watching a lot of Mario Odyssey content (#smallant, #cjya, #fir), and I really like nintendo games (nostalgia mainly, #nintendo64 best console imho), but I also dont wanna give nintendo any more money bc their business practices are just shitty. And I mean REALLY shitty. Fullprice for an game thats 7+ years old (!). It's just insane to me why they dont go even a little bit lower over time, espc bc they already made a fuckton of money! But I digress.
So I now *could* install a hardware mod (a bit sacry tbh), which risks my switch and can play a couple of games on it... I also thought about just selling it and cut my losses but.... I just LOVE zelda and mario games and idk what to do really. *sigh* why must everything be so ducking hard?
I wasn’t going to buy a #Nintendo64. But I did. It’s glorious. Playing this stuff how it’s supposed to on a CRT TV. Awesome. Got Wave Race 64, Pilot Wings 64, NBA Hangtime and a F1 race game.
The nostalgia with WR64 is huge. As a kid I would always hang around the game store to play on their demo unit.
A Pokémon Stadium 2 cartridge was included with the console, which is nice because I could test it #nintendo #n64 #nintendo64
A boxed gold N64. This was a Japan exclusive as well, and it looks awesome. Everything was included (I took away the video cable because I have a lot of them), but the console and the controller are really dirty. I’ll spend some time disassembling it and cleaning it thoroughly. #nintendo #n64 #nintendo64
Decided to add controller support to the editor
Now you can create AND play without dropping the pad!
Okay, okay, I'm spilling the beans…
Imagine Mario Maker…
except it's Zelda-OoT-Dungeon-Maker
How do we feel about the N64
So, a thought.
In Banjo Kazooie, on the #N64 , you should theoretically be able to reach the final Gruntilda fight without the Beak Bomb attack. Which is required for beating her.
You need 96 out of 100 jiggies in total, and I think the Beak Bomb is only required for 3. 2 in Freezeasy Peaks and 1 in Gobi's Desert. Oh! There is a 4th! The Grunty Switch for Freezeasy requires it! So yeah, unless I am forgetting any other jiggies that require the Beak Bomb...
What would happen if you did get to that phase of the fight without that move?
Is there some dialogue about you lacking the move to beat her?
I am super curious, but do I really want to a third run of Banjo Kazooie in the space of a year? Don't get me wrong, love the game, if I was to run it again, i probably would use some Action Replay nonsense to get to Grunty fight.
Basically, anything that doesn't require me to 100% Rusty Bucket Bay a third time!
Recently learned about the #SummerCart64 for #Nintendo64 and given that it’s so cheap makes me think about (finally) adding an #N64 to my collection. I probably shouldn’t. I’d likely not play it a bunch either. But I have very fond memories of playing it as a kid in the stores on timed demo pods haha. I also still have my #CRT TV for my retro consoles!
#WaveRace64 was my absolute favorite. Bought it in the WiiU eShop back when that was still a thing.
Does some of the 90’s teenagers remember this song ?

Emulation on Linux has come a long way over the last 10 years. For one thing, there weren't GUI Nintendo 64 emulators that I could find that worked in the Ubuntu 14.04 repos (I used Mint 17.x then) and I didn't want to use a CLI, so I tried Project64 1.6 in Wine and it ran but had major menu bar and status bar problems. It's way different now, in a good way. There's all sorts of options now. Project64 1.6 probably works better in Wine now too, I have to check.
These are my Top 3 of Zelda games. Maybe you aren't agreed with me... but it bring me a lot of memories from childhood.
1: Ocarina of Time.
2: Link's Awakening.
3: A link to the past.
I liked it a lot the version A link to the past from GameBoy Advance.
PD: I haven't played all Zelda games.
PD2: I have oracle of ages in physical but never didn't play it. Maybe some day I will play it.
This Wikipedia passage captures the gulf between the hype and the reality of the #Nintendo64, which got outsold more than 3-1 by the #PS1 and had 1000s of fewer games; Spielberg also went on to create the #PlayStation-exclusive _Medal of Honor_ games:
> [C]elebrities Matthew Perry, Steven Spielberg, and #Chicago Bulls players called #Nintendo to ask for special treatment to get their hands on the console. The console had only two launch games.
