This Echidna is doing what Echidnas do - turning over an old log looking for termites. Those spines are sharp - so I wasn't about to turn it over to see if it was male or female!

Look at this happy healthy creature who I spotted crossing the busiest road in my suburb this evening at dusk.
This one was studiously ignoring the myna birds who were outraged that an echidna was passing through their territory, while also being ignored by the sulphur crested cockatoos who were coming home to their night time trees.

@Gracchus@aus.socialOk, must be me, and marsupials have an issue with me. On walk Tuesday evening and come round a corner and an echidna is waddling down the road. I stop to take some photos and it just keeps coming, Everything seemed to be in slow motion, then again it could be that echidnas are pretty slow. Before I knew it, it was pushing through my legs. Not sure if this can be considered an attack 
but I was having flashbacks to Xmas eve.

Echidnas are everywhere are the moment. This one's visited a few times to clean up the ants around an old retaining wall.
The echidnas are very busy at the moment. I saw three yesterday and two today. Some are quite timid and curl up every time the camera's shutter goes off and others don't care at all.
Touching ancient idols always comes with an element of risk, especially the fabled mother of monsters. If you're lucky, perhaps they'll only turn you into their new guardian instead of more dire consequences.

Twice now I've been caught wth a 135mm lens and an echidna at my feet. Managed to grab this pic before it came any closer - focus 'not ideal', best I could do in the circumstance without scaring it. (Once that happens, they dig in and you won't see their face for some time. Thankfully they have poor eyesight, so if you're quiet and still they likely won't notice you.)
