This story is very funny and keeps getting better.
Starting at 2am in Bungendore, a burglar disturbed by the local cops makes off in the cop car and drives into Canberra. He pulls over a random car and steals that. The owner of the stolen car then gets in the cop car to chase but crashes it into a tree.
By the 7pm news, we're told that the ACT cops have the offender holed up in a house in O'Connor. This morning we learn that the siege ended later in the evening when they realised it wasn't the guy they were after.

And finally, the crowning achievement: First Prize for the category “Loaf homemade bread - sourdough” and Show Champion / Best in Section for Bread. It’s just a plain sourdough loaf, but he’s really perfected his process. He even cuts little patterns into the loaf with a razor blade so they look pretty.

And then there’s his First Prize winning entry in the category “Man’s chocolate cake”.
This was a last minute decision to enter. I made a chocolate cake last weekend and everyone liked it, so he asked for the recipe and made it for the show. Lucky he asked soon after I made it, because I don’t use recipes to make cakes so at least I could still remember what I’d done!
Next we have second prize for the category “Loaf homemade bread - savoury”. This bread is the reason he doesn’t make the cranberry walnut more often - everyone loves his sourdough jalapeño cheese so much that nothing else gets a chance!

Starting with this one: third prize for “Loaf homemade bread - fruit”. It’s a sourdough with cranberries and walnuts. I can assure you this is one that we all love eating, I just wish he made it more often!

The building my office is in was officially named today, in honour of Skaidrite Darius.
She developed the administrative systems (like payroll) at ANU in 1955 when it was a men-only job working on IBM computers in the Physics building.
Paul Girrawah House did a lovely welcome to country, and there were lots of speeches from her friends and family.

Look at this happy healthy creature who I spotted crossing the busiest road in my suburb this evening at dusk.
This one was studiously ignoring the myna birds who were outraged that an echidna was passing through their territory, while also being ignored by the sulphur crested cockatoos who were coming home to their night time trees.
