I’ve been doing some paring down because I ended up with some tiny annoying bugs on the sarracenia. It might be two kinds actually.

Do you remember what kind of pesticide you used on your white dots?

Whew! I knew this was going to be a tricky replanting and it was but went more smoothly than I'd expected. This mini bog started out in 2023 as a random throwing things together with different Sundew seed stalks, moss and some Butterworts in a Tupperware-type container using coconut coir as the growing medium and I actually didn't expect it to survive. It seemed to (mostly) do okay and it was time to move it to a larger container.

I'm preparing another batch of growing medium (mix of peat and perlite). If you are new to growing carnivores, you might not know yet that the medium should be soaked and rinsed before planting. If you plant in dry medium and then water it, it may repel the water (see pic 3 where it is floating on top of the water). I'm using one of @mfeilner 's fermentation jars and periodically shaking it, breaking up barky chunks and letting it set in a warm room.

Cleaned up and moved the dormant Drosera paradoxa (sundew) into a new pot. It's in an open glass container until the ambient humidity in this room goes up. This one came out of dormancy mid going into late March last year (see link at https://layer8.space/@chillicampari/112169585969118118), but it can vary. As I am doing with a few other plants, I top dressed it with chopped fresh sphagnum moss that I keep in a jar.

My little Briggsiana is growing up :’) Yes I do say this every time it opens a ‘biggest pitcher yet,’ but it was my first #nepenthes and I’m very proud. This is the first time I’ve noticed any hairs on the underside of its lid, there will probably be more of those as it matures!

Been messing with loom beading, these are my first three projects! Lessons were learned lol. Pictured: Three bracelet-sized bands of beading. The farthest from camera is out of focus, with a vaguely festive green and red patters and a wave to it, like wrinkled fabric. The middle band is less wrinkly, with a cross stitch like pattern- a red heart in the middle flanked by simple flowers of different colors. The closest band is not at all wrinkly, and is blue with a heavily stylized bird. The bird is outlined in black with a yellow to orange, sunset like gradient in the wings and tail. I was told by my beading teacher that it is a historic Native American pattern of a diving loon.

My first historic tablet weaving in progress, the simplest Oseberg pattern. One day I’ll get brave and do the complicated ones! The pattern is simple and slightly asymmetrical, with repeating white parallelograms inside a plum colored stripe that’s just off center.

My first nepenthes, x Briggsiana, who is doing wonderfully and has been joined by a small gaggle of other neps that tolerate household humidity. I was lucky this was my gateway plant; it survived my beginner mistakes and I adore the dark color and wide peristome! Pinguicula laueana and moranensis are sending up flowers. P. laueana is the only species of butterwort known to have a red flower.

Pinguicula laxifolia is flowering. The plant itself is out of focus in the background; the butterwort in the foreground is a spontaneous leaf bud off of a Pinguicula moranensis plant. The flower is about half an inch across.

My sister brought home a very unhappy, limp, Venus Flytrap and asked if I could save it. It should be dormant this time of year, but it's not at all. I got it into some rainwater (plenty of that around right now) and put it outside. I'm going to monitor for a bit before I put it into the bog. One of the traps opened yesterday.

Nice day for collecting moisture, we're getting a constant misty rain.

And there are now hundreds of sundew (Drosera sp.) carnivorous plants around our property with most in flower. Some are now past their best, others are only now beginning to appear.

A single ping flower has appeared on a plant which like to catch and dissolve small insects by virtue of a sticky enzyme at the tip of "tentacles".

Spotted this super cool carnivorous plant at the edge of a bog in the NJ pine barrens today! Might be spoonleaf sundew Drosera intermedia, but that looks a lot redder in all the photos I’ve seen so I’m not totally convinced yet.
