Pinguicula laueana and moranensis are sending up flowers. P. laueana is the only species of butterwort known to have a red flower.

Pinguicula laxifolia is flowering. The plant itself is out of focus in the background; the butterwort in the foreground is a spontaneous leaf bud off of a Pinguicula moranensis plant. The flower is about half an inch across.

A half opened white flower bud on a slender stalk, two more small unopened buds stretching beyond the upright opening flower. The background is a dark sheet of paper, with light coming from the right. The petals are pointed and still have further to open, the one to the left is just starting to peel away from the rest.
Light shines through the unopened buds and the petals inside make a darker shape within them.

Took a quick snap of the sundews backlit by the low early light as I was rushing out the door this morning. Turned out ok.

Bifurcating thin leaves of lots of sundew plants catching the light like lots of fairy lights. Each leaf covered in hundreds of hairs holding a sticky dew drop.
Some dried seed heads of shorter rosette sundews are caught in amongst the sticky leaves.
The sundews are growing out of moss just visible at the bottom of the picture.

Not so many reds in the garden (and one indoor sundew) but the ones that are there are just about glowing in the sunshine.
I don’t think you can see the bee in the poppy but know that it was there.

Red petals hang down from the flower head of Sarracenia purpurea, it has a shield to force pollinating insects to enter/exit so they get covered in pollen. The sepals are also dark red.

I'm trying to source some hardy #InsectivorousPlants as I'd like to make a small bog #garden in coastal #Aberdeenshire.

I'm particularly interested in
Sarracenia purpurea
Pinguicula grandiflora
Drosera rotundifolia
Drosera intermedia &
Darlingtonia californica.

These #plants seem remarkably difficult to find in nurseries and I wonder whether anyone might have surplus growing in their garden that they'd be willing to share?

Our Heliamphora plant is growing new leaves and catching the sun on our kitchen windowsill. I love the bright green of the leaves with sun shining through.
Nearly time for a new pot again.

*Edited as I had completely misnamed the plant - it is Heliamphora not Cephalotus as I first wrote. Oh dear.

New leaf with the curved nectar cup and tube still closed.
The new leaf is catching the sun and is low down amongst older leaves.

Older open Heliamphora- leaf bright green in the sun with a thin faint red edge.

Keeping up the insectivorous content- another old photo, from 2020, close up of a couple of types of sundew plant we keep in our porch. The plants grow in sphagnum moss and rainwater. the moss grows very well, so the plants have to keep reaching up to stay in the light
