Friend of mine wants to have a sex date with a guy she doesn't know (yet).
Perhaps some safety precautions should be met? Because in the past some friends of mine shared their live location, had me call them after a time, ...
What do you recommend?
I want to collect some tips / opinions / views.

Niche request. But have any of you got a photo of a goat perched on a capybara? #AskFedi #AskMastodon
@tulsa I have some old books that are library editions. They were never sold as hardback versions but my library copies are hardback and have a sticker on the inside that lists them as "Bound to Stay Books" outside of Jacksonville, Illinois.
It seems like they took soft cover books all over the country and rebound them as hardbacks for libraries so they would be more durable.
As for places local to Tulsa though I have no idea unfortunately.
Does anyone know why this is? Here's a post from my other account. When I view it from that account, I can see loads of faves and boosts, but when I view it from this account (I followed my old account just in case it was that), it only shows 7? Does this instance have a lot of others that it defederates from? Or is it some other reason?
Let's #AskMastodon !
I'm looking for a tool that I can use to archive websites, but in a simplified way. Something similar to the reader mode.
Also, I'd like that to be easily integrated with #tiddlywiki so I can capture interesting blogposts or documentation and embed it directly in the wiki, without relying in the link being available in the future (or offline access, too).
Ideas?
Are there any statistics on which underlying transport protocol (UDP, TCP, TLS, HTTPS, …) is most frequently used for DNS?
Since #Bluetooth doesn't require you to install drivers, would a current Bluetooth #keyboard work with an old #PocketPC or #Palm #PDA?
I know that they had Bluetooth keyboards made for some of them back in the day but I am not familiar with the backwards compatibility of the Bluetooth standard.
Unfortunately, I do not currently have a Bluetooth keyboard to test. Does anyone else know the answer to this?
Question for those in #IT do you code at all?

My trusty old iPad Mini 4 is starting to show its age (it won’t run any of the modern clients for Masto) and I’m thinking about a replacement, however I’m deeply distrustful of Cupertino at the moment, given their recent actions.
Basically, my use-case for a tablet is:
I’m only interested in an 8-inch that I can hold like a book.
Hardware-wise the #AmazonFire looks like a bargain, but of course Bezos can lick my taint. Given that the Fire is basically an Android, has anyone had success at replacing the OS with a de-Googled OS like e/os or Graphene?
There's a nonprofit whose website I support that monitors the far right. They want to set up a mirror site in Iceland (or other country with strong data sovereignty laws) in case the Trump administration takes down their website.
Does anyone have Icelandic hosting companies they recommend? The website is in #Drupal
boosts appreciated
I first dabbled with linux using Raspbian on the Raspberry PI and linux Mint on my PC.
I got very comfortable using the APT package manager in the command line and would like to continue doing so.
Can anyone recommend some good #linux distros that are based only on #Debian?
Most of the Debian based distros that I come across are actually based on Ubuntu (Elementary OS) and so they Include snaps in the repo which I don't want.
Any suggestions for a video editor for Ubuntu? #askMastodon #askFedi
I'd really like the option to prevent direct messages from people I don't follow (I'm just getting too many these days that aren't relevant or helpful, I'm afraid) but I don't believe this is an option on Mastodon from what I've been told. Is this accurate? #Mastodon #AskMastodon #AskFedi
Should I be using Docker/Podman containers for local services that I run?
I'm not talking about building containers, I mean, am I going to get very annoyed very quickly if I install Docker on a local machine and use it to run stuff?
Since #Substack's CEO decided to go full fascist as well and endorse #ElonMusk's and #MarkZuckerberg's positions, what do you suggest as a secure, privacy oriented and free (I can't really afford any kind of subscription right now, i've been without a job for two months and my stuff will never require a payment) alternative to Substack? I'm also a #noob so don't tell me to do difficult things on computers please.
EDIT: please don't suggest me to use another instance/Fediverse platform. When I ask for a Substack alternative, I'm asking for something of that kind, meaning a proper blogging platform with formatting tools and the possibility to send what you write via email. Postcard is the best option for me so far, as you may understand if you read the whole thread. Don't take it personally, it's just a matter of #fediquette. This is not Facebook, let's try to be conscious users.
Are there any hashtags going for expanding Fediverse usage?
Can I make an unreasonable request? >w<
I want a google forms alternative (for small numbers of submissions) that is both self hosted and requires very minimal serverside (or ideally no severside setup).
I've looked at forms services that can be self hosted. Realistically, I am not going to self host them, so there's not much benefit in them being foss, it'll be easier to remake the forms. I'm looking to have my cake and eat it. No DNS or patching.
