Home Assistant reads my garage door as a window blind and I think that's funny
User: Hey, is there a home automation device that'll do this specific thing that I want?
Other Users: Oh yeah, there's things like this on Amazon *sends link* or you can get this on AliExpress *sends link* but the latter may take more fudging to get it work, although I--
*loud crashing sound in the distance, followed by more clattering before the door is SLAMMED open by a frantic nerd carrying a pile of breadboards*
Home Assistant User: HAVE YOU HEARD OF ESPHOME???
I have all of my IoT devices restricted to the local network, but Google Home still works with them and I'm not entirely sure how. All of our Google Home devices are first generation which, as far as I know, don't have the capability to be hubs. I'm very confused.
Okay, we're gonna be yeeting our Echo devices shortly. What're good alternatives? We're a mixed household -- my partner is Android, I'm iOS -- and we have a home assistant installation kicking around, including integration with Hue
I'm leaning towards homepods, but I'm open to other options. #homelab #HomeAutomation
While looking for new hardware for our home server (a 19'' mini rack server is very tempting...), I just came across project #minirack
10" rack server builds using a mix of off-the-shelf commercial and #diy #3dprinted mounts, panels, frontplates etc.
Looks interesting (and the mini racks are also rather cute).
Maybe interesting to some of you.

We're Matter certified!!
We've been ahead of the game with Matter implementation, and we're excited to announce both Home Assistant and the Open Home Foundation Matter Server are officially certified by the CSA.

Well I couldn't get the garage keypad of my dreams with an NFC reader and RFID keychain tags, so I did the next best thing and put an NFC tag on the evil no good very bad MyQ keypad so I can open the garage door by tapping my phone against it.
And yes, I am absolutely petty enough that I stuck the tag right over the MyQ logo because Chamberlain can eat muh loafy butt
One thing that's really fun about setting up home automations is just how many edge cases you don't think about. I decided to sync the lights in our garage to the light on the garage door opener (cuz I have a lil puck that connects to the power/serial port on the opener so I can track it, it's great ) so the lights turn on whenever someone pulls in and automatically turn off after a bit. That said, I forgot the opener light flashes when an error happens. One of our dogs got out and walked in front of the door sensor while it was closing and the room turned into a heckin' rave.
Just quickly mapping my switches to my devices (lights, shutters). Normal #HomeAutomation #HomeAssistant things.
big fat fuck you to Chamberlain MyQ is the worst thing since BMW tried to charge a subscription for heated seats. I have a Konnected puck sitting on the opener now so at least I get the integration I actually want, but I can't banish the MyQ setup entirely since people use it.
I haaaate you MyQ
There's something infinitely funny to me that I have to bounce my Nest devices over to HomeKit using HomeBridge in order to bridge them into Home Assistant because Google is just that awful that I have to use Apple's standard to get their crap working.
I know they really had to rush Matter to market in order to have any kind of hope of seeing adoption, but man, it really doesn't support much huh?
Today finally found some time to connect a #KNX Gateway to my #Airzone climate system.
All the data is nicely coming into Home Assistant. Will be some more work to have all the controls working from my HA dashboard. Luckily the most complicated part is done. #homeautomation
I'm kinda surprised there's no WiFi fan controller that supports Matter. Inovelli has one that goes over Thread but that's about it.
