Two powerful Spirits, a good match up.
I do love that #SpiritIsland is frequently "this is getting way out of control, how are we going to do this", and then suddenly "oh! we got strong enough that we did it!", and the threshold is often not easy to see coming.
That tense balance is a sign of good #CoOperative #BoardGame #GameDesign, in my opinion.
Played most of a game of Spirit Island with a friend on Sunday, but only got around to finishing out the game by myself tonight. Turns out we only had to finish out the round, then start the next round to win.
The setup:
The Kingdom of Brandenburg-Prussia, Level 1
Myself: Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island, a slow utility spirit that takes presence from other spirits to grow, eventually giving back energy, extra presence, and free major powers in return.
My friend: Breath of Darkness Down Your Spine, a fear-focused spirit that takes lone invaders to a void to generate fear.
It was quite a while since I played Spirit Island. I really like this game but I am terribly bad at it. It's a very elegant game.
I lost again, but it was nice reading the rules and re-learning them. The island got blighted within 45 minutes. The invaders exploited the island and kept on littering everywhere.
Wish me luck as I dive into #solo #HorizonsOfSpiritIsland for the first time ever. I've never even played OG #SpiritIsland
Pulled #SpiritIsland down from the shelf today for the first time in ages to play a two-handed solo game, and I finally won a game! To be fair I’d only played fully solo before, but having a second spirit to balance things out was huge.

Some recent #BoardGame plays:
A new couple started showing up at my FLGS. Introduced them to Ticket to Ride: Europe last Thursday. Brought along the trains from The Little Plastic Train Company, which are always a hit.
Last Saturday, we played #SpiritIsland. I think it might have been a bit much for them, but they got the hang of it by the end.
Yesterday, Architects of the West Kingdom hit the table. First time at 5, and it's still great, even with that many people!
