Santa Ana Wind Event with PDS Update/ VC Situation Update (via our ham radio emergency group here)

"The National Weather Service is forecasting Red Flag Conditions including an embedded Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) wind event for Ventura County that started earlier today and will last until Wednesday January 15. Long duration critical fire weather conditions due to moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds will occur through at least Tuesday and likely through Wednesday for Los Angeles and Ventura counties."...

The National Weather Service is forecasting Red Flag Conditions including an embedded Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) wind event for Ventura County that started earlier today and will last until Wednesday January 15. Long duration critical fire weather conditions due to moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds will occur through at least Tuesday and likely through Wednesday for Los Angeles and Ventura counties. It will be very dry through the period with daytime humidities largely between 10 and 20 percent with minimal improvement at night. The very dry vegetation combined with the prolonged extreme fire weather conditions will support rapid spread and erratic behavior of any new or existing fires. Attached is the NWS briefing. · Coasts/Valleys: 25-40 MPH · Mountains/Foothills: 30-45 MPH · Peak gusts ranging from 50-70 MPH are possible on Tuesday. · The peak period of activity including the PDS conditions will take place Tuesday at 4 AM - Wednesday 12 PM. · Simi, Moorpark, Ojai, South Mountain, Piru, Fillmore & Santa Paula are all areas likely to see the highest wind. Southern California Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) As of 1/13 at 5PM, Southern California Edison has de-energized 27 circuits, 19 additional circuits are imminent to be shut-off, and SCE is still monitoring 22 circuits for potential PSPS. Additional real-time information on the circuits being monitored can be found by visiting the Ventura County Sheriff’s Emergency Services Dashboard. Water Purveyor Readiness It is highly recommended that all water purveyors ensure reservoirs are filled to capacity in advance of this event starting. Due to the likelihood of power outages, generators should be positioned at water pumping facilities that do not have adequate backup power. It is requested that any water system outages be reported ASAP to the Ventura County Sheriff's OES Duty Officer. Ventura County Fire Department Upstaffing The Ventura County Fire Department is in a PLAN 2 BRUSH. This PLAN 2 BRUSH staffing pattern will be bolstered with additional firefighting resources. Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff's Emergency Services hosted an Operational Area Conference Call on 1/13/2025. The Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team has been activated and will be pre-deployed across Ventura County to assist with arson patrol and if necessary, evacuations, beginning Monday 1/13/25
