This is also a foundational #p2p technology, which received funding by @nlnet under the EU Horizons #NGI0 programs, to evolve their specifications.
Willow contains among others a specification for support of object capabilities, called Meadowcap, which is very interesting.

Iroh's programming language used is #Rust though, but via the #WebAssembly support it may be usable in the languages you mention, but I am not sure.
Can somebody point me to some link, tutorial, example code, etc... for a #p2p application? I roughly understand how do they work, but I would prefer to see some basic code because some parts are like magic for me. What I plan to build is similar to a torrent client, but I don't understand how clients search each other and how do they connect to each other.
If you can point to some Python or C/C++ code, that would be awesome.
I was curious about ZeroNet again today. ZeroNet was a #P2P web project from the 2010s along similar lines to I2P (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I2P) and #Tor hidden services. The idea of hosting dynamic webpages in a completely P2P fashion, like torrents, remains super cool and appealing to me. In fact, at one point the #BitTorrent company had a similar proposal (https://www.bittorrent.com/blog/2014/12/10/project-maelstrom-the-internet-we-build-next/).
The ZeroNet website (https://zeronet.io/) is still up, but the project hasn't been updated in five years as per the GitHub repo (https://github.com/HelloZeroNet/ZeroNet). Someone was maintaining a fork at some point, and at other times I heard that ZeroNet was (now?) insecure, although I know no details. Certainly anything P2P isn't anonymous by default.
I found this question (https://github.com/HelloZeroNet/ZeroNet/issues/2749) about the creator of ZeroNet. Disturbingly, this article (https://www.newsbtc.com/news/sam-maloney-creator-of-morphis-and-dpush-shot-dead-by-london-police/) about a different developer killed by the police under unusual circumstances was shared.
My impression was that ZeroNet actually worked (works?) to some extent. Why aren't projects like this being funded? We need censorship-resistant ways of communicating online, after all.

Mindful of recent developments in the world, is there any technology to distribute hosting, so the data is shared between many small peers around the world and requests to a site are load balanced across all or some of them and split over "safe" geographies? For common good sites like Wikipedia, The Internet Archive, that sort of thing?

0.4.0 is in development and will support trackers and simultaneous upload/download.
@lvk we always had a decentralized model for group membership but the prior implementation had several edge cases that would result in difficulties to effectively leave groups, and other issues. The new implementation is based on extensive simulations and tests, before it was implemented and released, putting to rest systematically all #P2P group membership issues that occured in the last years. Group membership consistency is also important for end-to-end encryption security.
If only you are holding the private keys or the seed of your wallet and if you keep it safe, no one can steal it.
Regarding the price, when #Trump came up, everything was shaked. Not just crypto. One of them, #EUR rate with respect to #USD.
I agree these #decentralized #money are not as much decentralized as they should be. But as a matter of comparing, the USD is under control of just one entity. But as for #Bitcoin, several parties share authority.
Not to mention that #cryptocurrencies are not all the same. And there is #Monero which is much more decentralized thanks to their #P2P mining pool.
We are not in a perfect world. Sometimes you haven't got a good choice. Only "bad" and "very bad" ones. In which case it's logical to choose "bad" because it's the "best" choice.
Last but not the least, cryptocurrencies are developed in the open in the general case. Where in the case of something like USD, it's up to the #US government and central bank. If you don't like a crypto and you think your idea is better, it is possible to fork it and form your own community and network. For instance #BCH is a fork of #BTC. Because some community members had the opinion BTC is going the wrong way.

Members can add/remove peers also while being offline, and when everything comes online again, everyone has the same consistent membership view. VPN Providers Consider Exiting France Over ‘Dangerous’ Blocking Demands

In France, rightsholders have taken legal action to compel large VPN providers to support their pirate site blocking program. The aim is to reinforce existing blocking measures, but VPN providers see this as a dangerous move, leading to potential security issues and overblocking. As a result, some are considering leaving France altogether if push comes to shove.

Over the years, courts and lawmakers in dozens of countries have agreed, resulting in a patchwork of blocking regimes around the globe.
Initially, these efforts focused on residential ISPs as the key intermediaries. While these companies were not blamed directly, they were the go-to parties to implement blocking. That proved insufficient, however.
More recently, DNS resolvers have been targeted with blocking orders. Since services such as Cloudflare, Google and OpenDNS, can be used to bypass ISP blocking efforts, courts in Germany and France have determined that DNS resolvers should take responsibility too.
