We're up to 7 fires now in the area: 3 in Polk (longest-term) 1 each in Swain, Jackson, Haywood and Buncombe counties.

The winds here SW of #Asheville have dropped, and the smoke is now settling in. My outdoor sensor jumped from 4 to 29 for PM2.5

This may affect our plans to finally go for a hike tomorrow morning.

Three are clustered down near the upstate of SC, north of 74, one is in the NW quadrant near Asheville, while the remaining 3 are spread out over the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. These are not necessarily remote areas, but will have plenty of Helene storm debris as fuel. The largest of the 3 fires is 750 acres. The data on the Polk fires has not been updated for 2 days.
