One thing that isn't discussed very often is the fallout from the assassination at the Lorraine Hotel. A good number of songs were written in that same building over the years and released on Stax.
After Rev. Dr. King perished on a balcony, the days of songwriters and musicians creating at the hotel where they stayed ended as well.
We must remember this was an attack on an entire culture, and not just an attempt to extinguish a single figure in the Civil Rights Movement.

Today in Labor History: March 28, 1968: Martin Luther King led a march of striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee. Police attacked the workers with mace and sticks. A 16-year old boy was shot. 280 workers were arrested. He was assassinated a few days later after speaking to the striking workers. The sanitation workers were mostly black. They worked for starvation wages under plantation like conditions, generally under racist white bosses. Workers could be fired for being one minute late or for talking back, and they got no breaks. Organizing escalated in the early 1960s and reached its peak in February, 1968, when two workers were crushed to death in the back of a garbage truck.

Another protest next Saturday, March 15, 12pm
Great time today at the #TeslaTakedown event in #Memphis, meeting like-minded people and getting tons of honks and waves! (Plus a few middle fingers and one guy who parked his truck in the road, got out, and started shouting angry Trump babble.)
Not a huge turnout, couple dozen people or so; apparently there had been some confusion about the date this time. Another protest at the same #Tesla showroom next Saturday at noon! Hope more folks will show up.
Our tiger graduation mascot passed all the exams and is getting a degree! Many made to order gifts with our solo tiger, graduation tiger or our tiger mascot playing different sports
