Exactly… why do people think trading supervised injection sites for unsupervised injection site is a good thing?
The slogans write themselves:
Vote for us, we’ll kill more addicts!
Vote for us if you believe in more social disorder!

We all know that homelessness itself is criminalized, especially following the passage of Boston's tent ban ordinance last fall and the Supreme Court's ruling in Grants Pass V. Johnson earlier this summer. Warm Up's Legal Working Group is trying to chip away at the effects of this. Read on for more about our Court Support Program, an update on our Bail Fund, and how YOU can get involved!
We need more #SocialHousing.
We need our local, provincial & federal governments to stop using the term "affordable housing" because it's just PR crocktalk to avoid funding more social housing for elderly & disabled folks on low fixed incomes, in addition to more social housing for low income families & individuals, living at or below poverty lines.
Politicians love to use the "affordable housing" term a lot. It makes it sound like they may care, to the public. Yet, their idea of affordable is out of reach for citizens who are poor. They don't really care about poor people. It's not affordable if only privileged folks can afford to rent.
Call out your governments who aren't investing in much social housing developments. We are in a housing crisis. People need access to more social housing - immediately.
@GreenRoc @PhoenixSerenity
Indeed!
And where #HousingFirst has been done, it saves money. It is a net saving! Not doing it is cruel and stupid.
Driving from dentist, earlier. Houseless encampments on Pandora Ave.
Video audio transcription:
Pandora.
People need homes. House the homeless. House the homeless. In such a bourgeois, rich city and a rich country, people should have homes.
A set of radical propositions:
The main cause of homelessness is that people don’t have a place to live
The main cause of poverty is that people don’t have enough money
The main cause of hunger is that people can’t access enough food
Therefore:
We can address homelessness by giving people a place to live
We can address poverty by giving people money
We can address hunger by giving people food
It is really just that simple… don’t trust anyone who tells you otherwise
#HouseTheHouseless #HousingFirst
My dentist's office is 2 blocks away from the street encampments on Pandora in downtown #VictoriaBC. My dentist has provided a lot of free dental services to many of the #houseless folks who live in tents on this busy street. I wish everyone was as kind & compassionate.
#YYJ is a bourgeois government city & capital city of BC. There's so many empty buildings all around downtown core & also around the surrounding municipalities - which could be used as housing for many houseles individuals & houseless families.
Much of the so called new 'affordable housing' developments being built/built very recently are totally out of range for many folks who aren't even houseless. There's more than a few houseless folks who have either PT or FT jobs too. #StopHomelessnessStigma & #StopHouselessStereotypes
Please keep putting pressure on your local, provincial & federal governments to fund more housing for houseless citizens.
Please don't be cruel to houseless folks & help them, if you can. Almost everyone is only a few paycheques or one horrible life changing accident away from being houseless.
Be kind You should never be looking down on anyone with less than you - unless you're giving them a hand up
To be face to face with a houseless individual who has come in from -20C weather, moaning with pain as their frostbitten hands and feet warm up, unable to find a spot at a shelter except the same one at which they were assaulted the week before, is to be face to face with the realities that make houselessness a cause of addictions as much as the other way around.

Modellprojekt gegen Obdachlosigkeit in Berlin
In Deutschland sind etwa 50.000 Menschen obdachlos - und es werden immer mehr. "Housing First" heißt ein Konzept aus den USA, das dagegen helfen soll. Wie funktioniert das in einer Metropole wie Berlin? Von Andreas König.
This is how you do #emlopyment. Western nations take note!
Hats off to all the #union kin standing up for literally all the workers across the nation.
Imagine #canada and the #us with *ALL* employees under unions! It is the #rightwing's worst nightmare!
We the people need to demand our leaders follow these examples.
We need something like this in EVERY community!
People helping people.
People doing what governments should.
People not letting other people sink.
People lifting people.

It’s interesting reading articles critical of #HousingFirst policies that look at Salt Lake City’s experience and conclude that while it was initially successful, it stopped working when they stopped giving it resources, as if that is an indictment of Housing First policies and not just how every policy works.
The ‘poor tax’ is a terrible thing, and the finger wagging response to poverty issues gets me steamed: #SafeSupply, #HousingFirst, #GuaranteedBasicIncome all put the person first, as it should be.
Especially poignant for me as a new homeowner and thus new peer of “I’m not against affordable housing, but” types:
“America treats housing as an asset rather than a human right, creating a world of haves and have-nots. The haves are dedicated to increasing the value of their assets by restricting the supply, and by reducing the protections offered to tenants”
Good housing policy is a #solarpunk solution.
“What can we do about this? 90% of respondents say the biggest barrier to finding a home is housing costs. Half say their bad credit makes it even harder to find a rental, while a third say their criminal records also get in the way. Half also say that all the affordable housing is unsafe, or too far from their communities or care providers.”
An excellent write up by @pluralistic about homelessness, its causes and solutions. #housingforall #housingfirst
