I'll be delivering a keynote at this year's @LAS
Seizing The Moment - A Desktop For the Modern World
I mean, let's be honest, we know what we're going to talk about.
Evolution 3.56 is now available in the stable channel on #Flathub, too. What is new? A lots of smaller improvements and fixes. Especially those using Microsoft 365 may appreciate this release because there is improved support for Graph API.
Enjoy!
Here's why @UniversalBlue is all in on Flathub.
It's hilarious to me when websites call #bazzite a distro but then say #flathub is not a distro.
https://boilingsteam.com/linux-distros-in-march-2025-a-new-challenger-emerges/
Great quotes from @kylegospo at his talk "#Bazzite , The next generation of Linux gaming" at #SCALE22x : ""#Flathub is a controversial topic in some circles, I don't think it should be." "Pragmatism is better for your audience than idealism" (referring to supporting closed source Steam / Discord / NVidia drivers)
Introducing Refine [tesk.page] 0.5.0, the GNOME Tweaks alternative leveraging the data-driven [en.wikipedia.org] and composition [en.wikipedia.org] paradigms. This version re-adds the Document font option, and renames "Middle Click Paste" to "Middle Click to Paste Text" with an accompanying subtitle.
Thanks to @CodedOre, 0.5.0 also adds the capability to rearrange the titlebar's window buttons. This new feature also lets you add the minimize and maximize buttons.
While we thoroughly tested right-to-left (RTL) direction and keyboard navigation with a screen reader, it's worth noting that we're no experts. We welcome feedback from those who use Refine in RTL and/or with a keyboard and screen reader.
You can get Refine 0.5.0 right now on Flathub [flathub.org].
Tiny Crate, a third open source Godot Engine game from the same developer, is all the way down at 224. Not terrible among thousands of apps… but we can get it trending higher. :D
https://flathub.org/apps/net.hhoney.tinycrate
You can check out its nice new icon from @micahilbery by clicking through, too. Plus I hear there’s a new update coming out soon that will add more save slots plus local high scores…
Candy Wrapper, another open source Godot Engine game from the same developer, is also trending! This one’s at #15; can we get it higher?
https://flathub.org/apps/net.hhoney.candy
It also recently passed the guidelines with a shiny new @micahilbery icon (again, might be cached: click through to see the new one).
A nice surprise: ROTA—the open source Godot Engine game I’ve previously gushed about—is currently trending in the #4 spot on Flathub!
https://flathub.org/apps/net.hhoney.rota
This is likely thanks to recently passing all the quality guidelines, including the delicious new app icon from @micahilbery.
(You might see the old one cached on the link preview; click through to see the new one!)
wtf is up with Flathub calling X11 "legacy windowing system" and marking apps with X11 support as "unsafe".
I know GNOME likes role-playing as the sole owners of the Linux ecosystem, but it's not a good look to push their opinions on an otherwise neutral marketplace.
Ever wonder how we help keep millions of users safe while delivering thousands of apps and their updates?
We’ve written up a bit about the journey an app takes behind the scenes from its source code all the way to running on your device—with all of the safety nets along the way.

It's live! Feedback still welcome, of course. :)

if anyone’s super into this Flatpak and Flathub stuff—especially if you’re knowledgeable about safety protections built into the ecosystem—I could use your review of a decently-long blog post. Let me know and I’ll DM you a link.
Fun fact: if my process and math is correct, Flathub is down to <5% of apps being built from other packaging formats as extra-data sources.

Thanks to @wjt's blog post¹ for pointing me in the right direction and gasinvein’s Flatpak Remote Metadata Fetcher² for the handy tool.

Eloquent proofreading assistant 1.1 is out with improved language detection and support for running LanguageTool server in the background
This allows 3rd parties such as LibreOffice and Firefox to connect to a local and offline instance of the LanguageTool server.
I’ll happily design it, write Blueprint UI files, and contribute to the code… but it just seems annoying to have to do it all from scratch…
I’m probably just being lazy. I’ll start mocking a UI up and see how far I get, anyway.
I kind of want to put together a collection of wallpapers that work well with the GNOME/elementary OS light/dark style. The GNOME ones are excellent, but I have a handful I’ve made or compiled over the years that could make a nice set.
The obvious way to me to do this is to make an app for Flathub, so you can get them on any distro—but I kind of don’t want to have to figure out the actual app logic. Anyone want to help me?
Finally took some time to polish and publish Eloquent.
It's a proofreading assistant, that works fully offline; powered by LanguageTool.
