Ford promised bike lane removals could happen today onward in TO (Bloor W, Yonge, & Uni). That means we’ve got to be vigilant & have our eyes open. If you see construction crews amassing to remove lanes, post/tag local cycling orgs & advocates. Send pictures. Be safe & don’t interfere.
If you see bike lanes being removed, please report it to

Now THIS is fascinating:
Population density:
Netherlands: 520/km²
Toronto: 4,427.8/km²
Households without a car:
Netherlands: 26% (2020)
City of Toronto: 28% (2016)
Total dedicated cycle tracks:
Netherlands: >35,000km
City of Toronto: 467km
We have so much potential!

h/t @notjustbikes for getting me thinking about this comparison!
"Premier Doug Ford and his government have been given the go-ahead to rip up Toronto’s bike lanes as originally planned starting March 20, after a Superior Court judge denied a request for a temporary injunction.
Justice Stephen Firestone on Friday denied an application by cycling advocates for an injunction that would have halted the removal of bike lanes on Bloor Street, Yonge Street and University Avenue until" an April 16 Charter challenge.
#BikeBrampton will be hosting a Brampton Bill 212 Ride and Rally this Saturday. Meet 1 PM at Brampton GO. You can get there via the 11:51 AM train from Union (or 12:01 PM from Bloor).
Massive turnout at Toronto protest to save bike lanes.
"You take our lane, we'll take yours!!"
600 bikes from Queen's Park rally group ride clear the road for an ambulance in seconds. On the other side of the street, 6 cars can't manage to do it at all.

You’ll be shocked to hear that Doug thinks the percentage of people who bike 90km north of Toronto actually matters to deciding downtown Toronto safe cycling infrastructure. It’s all about his misunderstanding of geometry on his personal commute. That’s it.
The Ontario govt has posted an update on Bill 212, the province’s proposed anti-bike lane legislation, as follows:
“Update details - October 31, 2024
The Ontario government is proposing an addendum to the framework that would require the province to remove sections of the Bloor Street, Yonge Street, and University Avenue bike lanes in the City of Toronto and return them to a lane of traffic for motor vehicles.”
Any claim to want data was just typical Doug Fraud.
I pulled the data for a bike and car counter in the same spot on Bloor Street.
Cars in 2023: 189,567
Bikes in 2023: 217,021 (+14%)

Bloor Street bike counter averages 1187 bikes per day. A car traffic counter in the same location averages <750 per day as of the latest available data.

Relevant as the days get shorter. All credit goes to @tomflood and @TheBikingLawyer (Not yet on Mastodon)
So, by starting the year able to run 5k, I think it’s feasible to consider the goal of running 10k in 2024?
Also - I want to cycle a 100k (virtual or real), which I have done more than a few times before but didn’t do in 2023 due to injury. Like, Toronto to Niagara again by the lake again. It’s really beautiful and a perfect summer route.
Those are good goals, right?
