Continuing to share favourite images from my 30+ year photographic career. Focus for the next few days, my love of the greatest mode of transport ever invented, the bicycle. Here’s another from Scotland, in fact the same day as yesterday’s pic, descending back to Torridon. One of the best days I’ve ever had on a bike.

One of my local bike shops has a rather good selection (not for sale) of retro mountain bikes.
I don't think I will ever stop getting sentimental about #Shimano thumb shifters.

Is it a real Colorado stage race if it does have a Morgul-Bismark stage?

The 2025 version of Vélo Canada Bike's Pedal Poll is happening Tuesday June 3 to Sunday June 8. If you'd like to volunteer to count people walk, cycling, or driving, they have a form where you can sign up. As they put it:
"It's is a chance to evaluate the state of cycling in our communities. Together we get a “snapshot” of what cycling looks like in communities across Canada, at the same time, year over year."
Vélo Canada Bikes has published the results of their 2024 cross-Canada Pedal Poll. I helped out by counting in Waterloo, Ontario.
It seems to me like the Venn diagram of #EBike people and #Cycling people doesn't have a lot of overlap, and that's simultaneously a good thing and a bad thing.
The good thing is that it means that e-bikes are getting a lot of people in the saddle who otherwise wouldn't ride a bike. It's an important part of breaking the stranglehold of car-dependency.
The bad thing is that it seems like the people talking about e-bikes don't have a good understanding of the fundamentals of bicycles or cycling. They don't have the experience. Reviews don't seem to be especially helpful, and I worry that these bikes won't get the basic maintenance that they need.
It's funny how my first reaction to the cycling path being clearly marked as blocked because of roadworks is:
But can't I pass anyway?
sadly it seemed like this time it was really not a good idea.
out for the daily morning commute!

As the world heats up, why is SUV use increasing?

We need more walkers and cyclists, not show-offs in larger cars.
Mechanical parts break down eventually. @pete asks:
Q8. I think I jinxed things the other week with my 'do you repair?' question and somehow snapped a rear axle last weekend: What's the most recent component that you broke or wore out, and have you managed to get it fixed?
