The local chapter of the Service Employees International Union has put out a call to action to support detained workers like Lewelyn Dixon.
The SEIU Union demands that the University of Washington:
– Protect detained workers’ jobs
– Provide leave for immigration proceedings
– Educate all employees on their rights
A 64yo Seattle woman was recently detained at SeaTac airport after returning from a trip to visit family in the Philipines.
Lewelyn Dixon has lived in the US for 50 years, is a green card holder and works at UW Medicine. She's been detained at ICE's notorious prison, the NW Detention center.

#Seattle and #Tacoma area folks: WSLC is calling on folks to meet outside the Tacoma ICE detention facility tomorrow, Thursday the 27, at 5:30 pm and rally in solidarity with two unfairly detained #union siblings
one is an SEIU member who works at a #UW lab and the other is an organizer with Familias Unidas por la Justicia, so I hope those of you in the university community will circulate this as well

Hearing about a young hacker whose being extorted by the University of Washington, not cool UW.
The student claims they built an app to help kids get the course schedules they want, a hack as old as time, and the university decided to expel him until he ports his app to the university's internal systems.
This would be unpaid labor.
Until then his class registration is on hold and he can't register or attend his last few classes.
It took me almost 14 years of living here and randomly getting linked a wikipedia article about it to find out why University Way NE is known as "The Ave".

The students were able to bail out their arrested comrade but have two asks for allies:
1. Call UW President Mari Cauce, right now before 5pm Pacific and next Monday. 206-543-5010, call script in image
2. Help support our local community bail fund link below
Yesterday students at the University of Washington reported that one of their comrades was arrested.
The cops initially provided no reason. The students were standing around eating lunch after the board of regents meeting had concluded.
Eventually the cops claim the snacking student was arrested for "disorderly conduct" and not eating while Muslim.
The UW students continue their push for the University of Washington to divest from Israel and industrial partners, like Boeing, who are suppling weapons into the genocide.
Tomorrow at 10am they plan to rally before the board of regents meeting.
Meanwhile in Nablus, the occupied West Bank, a funeral procession with military honor guard carried Ayşenur Eygi's body to a cemetery earlier today.
Ayşenur was born in Turkey but grew up from the age of one in the PNW. She attended Seattle's West Seattle High School and graduated from the University of Washington.
Israel murdered her for peacefully observing the oppression of Palestinians.
Again listen to the legislation that Henry Jackson, UWs International school namesake, peddled in Congress:
- Nukes for Israel
- Build a military missile base in Discovery Park instead of a park
- Strongly refuse to return land to native Americans
- Ok with leasing a slice of land to natives for a price
This, all at UW, a college definitely voted most likeliest to start all events with a land acknowledgement.
And now with the death of Ayşenur we see where US politicians prefer we protest, somewhere our deaths can be ignored.
Bullshit.
Meanwhile UWs Jackson School of International Studies has a statue honoring its namesake WA Senator Henry Jackson, one of America's most instrumental zionist ever in Congress.
Jackson was so Zionist he didn't want the US to sign nuclear nonproliferation teaties that would have stopped Israel from getting nukes.
The Seattle activist community has been shocked by the news of the murder of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi at the hands of Israeli snipers in the West Bank. Ayşenur was a student at UW and was active at protests here in Seattle.
She traveled to the village of Beita in the West Bank after graduation to work as a volunteer legal observer documenting the destruction and theft of Palestinian lands in the area.

Latest update is that the University of Washington urged students to disband their protest during Friday night's negotiations. The college cited the pending far right rally this weekend creating a "safety concern".
They didn't ask the right wingers to cancel their protest. The group has been boasting that they plan to "buzzsaw" through the pro-Palestine encampment later today.
Oh no, the #UW #Seattle encampment might get attacked tomorrow.
This is a crappy piece of "guidance" from UW administration, saying basically "we asked the fash nicely not to beat up kids, but they say they're still coming, and we asked the encampment to leave, and they won't either, so I guess both sides, and maybe don't show up on the quad"
Reportedly the few cops who were visible on campus for these dueling protests were from Nisqually PD.
It's kinda odd that SPD didn't get the call, UWPD instead called on a cop shop from over an hours drive.
This interaction with a Karen (well Ken I guess) over the cops refusing to barge into the anti-fascist pro-Palestine protesters is pure comedy gold.
Look out world MAGA gonna defund the cops after this one

Had the cops (SPD especailly) been tasked as peace keepers Tuesday would have gone VERY differently.
Look no further than the fact SPD forced the train company to close UW Station during rush hour. Over a march to UW starting at a station. That's it.
Still digging with how the station closures work but my current understanding is SPD can call in a closure of "serious threats".
It's a wonder the place station is open for football games
