Shye Strange @shyestrange@deadrobots.socialI watched Adolescence last night. (No spoilers). I'm a fan of Steven Graham, who is an exceptional dramatic actor. But I also have to take my hat off for the talents of the actors who played the lead detective, and the boy, who has a very fruitful career ahead of him.
This is a "British" drama (by Netflix) that is in direct response to Andrew Tate and the spread of misogyny online. The premise is that "a 13 year old boy is arrested on suspicion of murder."
It is an intense drama that focuses on the lives of the people encircled around the aftermath of a serious incident, which unfolds as it goes along. It's "mystery" is more about the why, than the who or how. It offsets the intensity artfully, with it's always on camera view, just constantly following people around as though it's all one take - which adds to it's realism.
There is also such a lot of detail that's gone into it, that makes it realistic. With just all the little things happening in the background, and people's general body language. Every character is someone I've met before in real life.
Overall, in my opinion, an exceptional piece of work, with an important message warning of the potential consequences of allowing such disgusting ideas to corrupt our youth.
You do have to be in the mood though. It's dramatic intensity does project a lot of emotion. It isn't necessarily something to be enjoyed, but more experienced.
