This happens to a "lawn" if you let grass develop friendships with wild herbs. After a meadow of snowdrops now the change to white and purple scented violets, Ficaria verna and much more. Daisies, buttercups, and dandelions will follow later in April. A paradise for wild bees and insects. Naturepark #VosgesDuNord in eastern France.

Part of my "lawn" covered with wild fragrant violets. To show off these little beauties to their best advantage, I mow for the last time before the frost in autumn.
Macro of some Ficaria verna flowers. When Ficaria has faded, its leaves turn yellow first, then the above-ground plant retreats to make way for the grass. At the end of February/beginning of March, the lush green leaf pads sprout again.

#Snowdrops in the grass #meadow. A photograph to acknowledge #Candlemas, or #Imbolc, tomorrow, 2 February.
The #Christmas period is truly over now as we head into late winter.
Imbolc falls halfway between the winter #solstice and the spring #equinox. It is a #Gaelic traditional festival celebrating light and the first signs of #spring.
Every year I hope for the snowdrops to rise up through the snow - in vain.

#Gardening bubble, I need some tips. I'm thinking about creating a #wildflower #meadow with native plants in this part of the garden. Can I have some suggestions on what to prepare before sowing? Do I need to dig up the whole area? cover the area with fresh earth or #compost?

It's a pretty dark area: eastern side of the house, under a large gingko tree. The roots are close to the surface, so breaking up the whole soil will not be easy.
