Is there somewhere to buy ebooks that supports local book stores? I buy print books from Bookshop.org and my audiobooks from Libro.fm, but don't know where to go for ebooks. I'd like it to be DRM-free so I don't lose it when I'm on "unsupported devices".

I'm thinking of buying a non-Kindle e-reader to give Amazon the flick. What model has the closest functionality to Kindle, that isn't American-owned? Kobo perhaps?

Added info on how to register for advanced listener copies after folks DM'd me.
Refraining from emailing my publisher to ask if they can send me an audiobook sample of Pass the Salt so I can privately swoon over Kevin's voice without checking out a book from the library.
For those *not* following me and reading this, Kevin R Free is narrating the audiobook version of Pass the Salt.

Advanced listener copies should be ready by end of March/early April. Tick the street team box on the link below so people can get to the right place on my mailing list. Street team get review and advanced copies.

Last day of the #Smashwords #ebookweek25 sale!
It ends 11.59pm Saturday 8 March Pacific Time (which is 3.59pm Sunday in Perth, Australia, and that’s the last timezone help I can give anyone )
It’s a great chance to stock up on DRM-free ebooks — browse those two hashtags to check out the huge range of Mastodon indie authors with their books on sale.

Wishing OPDS took off more, partially because it uses #RSS under the hood, but also is a fantastic way to find free Ebooks. https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/OPDS#eBook_Reading_Software_Supporting_OPDS #EBook #FreeBooks #FreeBook #EBooks
@gurotveitnes I haven't really dug into the tagging/sorting options (there's decent search, though), but I can definitely suggest looking closely at PocketBook's lineup.
