They don’t want this film to exist.

We just got refused for our first grant application. Not surprising. In Canada—and around the world—making films about #Palestine is treated as taboo. We knew going into this that it would be an uphill battle. Canadian institutions don’t want to fund projects that expose Israel’s genocidal violence. They want silence. They want compliance.

But we’re not stopping. This film will be made.

It’s becoming clear that "A Red Road to the West Bank" may have to be 100% crowdfunded. And that’s fine. Because we’d rather make this film on our own terms than bow to institutions that refuse to speak the truth.

Many many people online and in real life want you to think that #BlackLivesMatter to them, even if talk is cheap and actions mean a whole lot more. But for sure, Native Lives Do Not Matter to them and they are gonna watch that game and support racist systems anyway.

In 2016, Kanien’kehá:ka filmmaker Clifton Ariwakehte Nicholas traveled to Palestine, witnessing firsthand the struggles of Palestinians resisting occupation. A Red Road to the West Bank is a documentary about the deep parallels between Indigenous struggles in North America and Palestine—two peoples fighting against settler colonialism, displacement, and erasure.

This film is currently in development, and we need your support to create the materials necessary to secure further funding. Our goal for this development phase is $10,000, which will allow us to build key pitch materials, begin early-stage editing, and prepare for full-scale production.

We’ve been building community under the gaze of tyrants for centuries.

We do what we need to do, where we can do it.

Find your people.

We cannot talk about climate justice without deconstructing colonialism. Nor can we pretend that scientific institutions are some perfect value neutral that exist outside of late capitalist structures. Nor can we afford to exist under the assumption that a specific political party in the US is genuinely more committed to climate action than the other beyond talking points.

To have a conversation about climate justice without critically engaging with these three elements is also to engage in the act of denying reality.

Specifically without deconstructing colonialist views and aims, we cannot come to solution. No call to action is complete without a comprehension of what a human relationship to the world looked like prior to colonial efforts to create a division between "human" and "nature". No call to action that identifies "humanity" as something existing *on* earth or reliant on its resources will be anything but a call to action that relies on extractive modes of living as a default assumption.

And when our science denies the knowledge & observations & modes of living of groups who stewarded the land responsibly for milennia, we must critically examine its own role in creating this crisis through colonial action.

We have to be able to have this conversation external to our own ideologies, using multiple different tools to examine its causes and effects, or we cannot have a complete conversation that leads us towards understanding and solution and not just confirmation bias and despair.
