Started Scanners today as I realized recently I haven't seen it-- one of the few (David, now that his kids make flicks) Cronenberg things I haven't seen. So good. Only about a third or a fourth of the way through, psyched to finish. That head exploding scene, and Michael Ironside, too. Wild stuff

Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future aims for, and occasionally achieves, the sort of transgressive alternate reality that his Videodrome captured so well. It's an imaginative future where evolution has accelerated and humans have lost the ability to feel pain. Some (like Viggo Mortensen) use newfound adaptations (glands and organs) for stomach-churning performance art while others have more subversive plans. I had to have a molar pulled on Halloween because it got all broken.
A few weeks later, a bit of tooth seems to be erupting from the hole in my jaw. It was just sore, no big deal.
As of Friday afternoon, I have a tiny serrated enamel knife stuck in my jaw next to my tongue.
Today, my ability to speak without distracting levels of pain is failing.
Dentist appointment on Tuesday. I wonder if my ability to speak at all will evaporate by Monday (best case, the fragment falls out before then).
Luckily, I type pretty fast, so my slate of #Rapid7 #Zoom calls might end up being one-way chat sessions.
Brush and floss your teeth, gang! This #Cronenberg level of orifice horror is cramping my style here.
