I found a great embroidered owl appliqué in the LA fabric district, leading to a golden owl wall vase, version 1 & 2

The owl is made of many abstract stitches, which are only slightly obscured by the application of thee coats of Gold glaze

The owl vase is mounted on a purple wall

For the second version of the owl vase, I tried wiping the glaze away from the eyes and other highlights, but instead of letting the light clay body show through, they went dark almost black. Although not as striking as the pure gold version, it gives the piece a tarnished, weathered look

Rutile oxide is an orangey matte outline to this large lace pattern, outlined and highlighted by glossy ox blood and greenish brown mottled tones of Copper Float

A sherd from a failed Weeden Island Incised (ca. 300-700 CE) bowl with red interior slip ca. 1994. We got too much sand in the paste & the sand was a wee bit on the coarse side. #ceramics #archaeology #ExperimentalArchaeology
