I moved our weekly virtual drinks party from Skype to Jitsi a few weeks ago, after Microsoft fumbled the transition from Skype to #Teams and one of us couldn't join. I'm really impressed by the way Jitsi has come on since I last tried it in 2020: not only is the connection clear and stable, but #Jitsi makes better use of our inadequate bandwidth than #Skype ever did.
"Something went wrong. Let's try again." is what Microsoft Teams tells me most times I try to use its built-in calendar to join a meeting.
And by trying to follow the link in the calendar invitation instead, it now tells me to "You don’t have the permission to change the meeting settings.”
Restarting Teams fixes the problem, but every interaction I have with Teams is marinated in this kind of bug-ridden friction.
I turn on my PC.
The local wildlife are immediately sterilised by the untreated waste of my four un-shielded nuclear reactors, operating far beyond criticality.
The sound of 10,000 cooling fans deafens the city's morning traffic as my warehouse of 500 parallelised AMD EPYC CPUs stolen from OpenAI burst into life, forming the equivalent processing power of 2019 in one room.
Nearby, my cluster of Nvidia 6090 Test Cards begins to warp the local time continuum as they calculate answers man was never meant to know.
Very gently, I open Microsoft Teams.
Instantly, the already deafening noise of fans increases to a murderous wail as they try to keep my equipment at operating temperatures. A nuclear reactors' fusion catches up with its cooling and explodes destroying the lives of millions. The floor begins to melt away as my processors overclocked ten-fold reach critical mass and descend directly into hell. My Nvidia cluster collapses into a singularity and begins to devour the planet.
Quickly now, I open a text chat, it's a bit laggy.
The sheer struggle of loading some text destroys the remaining systems. Me and my equipment are deleted from reality by an unknown overseer.
Humanity is not ready for instant messaging.

Happy birthday, #Microsoft! I'm so grateful to you for your caring about accessibility, for #Windows, for #Microsoft365, for making my digital life even possible as a blind person. I started from MS-DOS in 1995, so I can say I've been for 30 years with your products.
And although I do complain sometimes (yes, I'm talking about #Teams and killing of #Skype), I wanted to say thank you. Long live Microsoft!

In a work meeting, Teams automatically added not one, but two #AI transcribers, complete with fake "notetaker" names. Both were promptly kicked out of the meeting.

Hey, remember Skype? I do. When I joined my first tech company (making silly little Facebook games back when that was a thing), they were coordinating over emails and in-person desk visits. First thing I did as an unpaid intern was move the dev team onto Skype.
We used it for so long we have some Skype emoji on this forum too

It’s a #userscript that can be loaded via TamperMonkey (or GreaseMonkey, untested) or pasted into the F12 Developer Tools console. When you press both shift keys, it begins scraping the open Teams chat starting at the oldest loaded message, and continuing until it can’t load any more messages, then formats as Markdown with a convenient download button.
