Tales From The Riverbank

Mid-February, and a gorgeous day for following the river as far as we can through the snow-drifts. The main roads have been cleared and the conditions are good albeit with temperatures well below zero C.

Fnjóskadalur, an agricultural valley in Þingeyjarsveit north-eastern #Iceland. Fnjóská, a popular salmon angling river and the longest spring-fed river in Iceland, runs through it.

#SunbeamSaturday

10am on a dismal day in September. The Westfjords of #Iceland can be a difficult place to travel when it rains constantly; a lot of the roads are gravel and the potholes quickly fill with water.
Squelching towards Patreksfjörður, I glanced in the wing mirror back towards Ósafjörður at the end of the fjord, and was rewarded with these gorgeous sunbeams.
The bright hope of a better day to come.

In Summer And In Winter

This geothermal area by Námafjall mountain is a surreal landscape of hissing fumaroles, steaming vents, boiling mud pots, and mineral deposits. The powerful stench of sulphur pervades the air. It's hot, and usually snow-free, except for the November day that we visited during a blizzard.
