Can potash be a trade war weapon for Trump tariffs? Experts urge caution
Potash is a key ingredient in fertilizer, and roughly 85 per cent of the supply used by American farmers comes from Canada — particularly Saskatchewan.

> 80% of #potash used by US #farmers comes from mines in #Saskatchewan. #Canada is king of potash. It possesses the largest potash reserves in the world by a fat margin and the largest production by volume. The U.S. cannot source most of its potash from elsewhere. Just two other countries have large potash reserves #Russia and #Belarus and these operations are significantly smaller than Canada’s and prone to geopolitical instability. #trump #tariffs #economy #agriculture https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/economy/article-trump-wont-admit-it-but-canadian-potash-fuels-american-agriculture/?intcmp=gift_expired
Good Morning #Canada
Today is Colter Wall Day! When I started this series, I recognized I would struggle not to fan-girl over Wall's music. Born in Swift Current #Saskatchewan, Wall picked up a guitar in his early teens and credits Bob Dylan for influencing his songwriting. About 6 years ago, some algorithm suggested "Kate McKannon" and I've been a fan ever since.

I couldn't find an existing list of Canadian alternatives to American Internet services, so I've started one:

“According to a 2022 UNESCO report, a lack of trained educators is becoming an issue in Europe and North America, with a turn to underqualified hires becoming a growing trend.”
“in Saskatchewan, the minimum requirement for a temporary teaching permit is to be four years out of high school, with further education or a specialized skill merely “preferred.”
This is called ‘deprofessionalization’ and it’s toxic.

Did I say they have a majestic quality to them?
Well, not always. Check out this derpy guy!
White-tailed jackrabbit (species of hare, not rabbit) in the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada.
You[1] said you wanted more, you got more! #Jackrabbit / #hare photos, that is.
#1 - "He's behind me, isn't he?"
#2 - The one from behind in the first picture, now down off the snow bank and deciding whether to approach the others at the food source. This one's a bit timid and gets chased off a lot. You can see here that they are primed, ready to run on a moment's notice - the rear legs are spread apart, haunches off the ground, legs ready to spring.
[1] Maybe not you, specifically. Someone did.

#Canadian #prairie #jackrabbits in #Saskatchewan...
I'm fortunate that the area I live in is near the edge of the city, and my house backs onto a green space (used for storm drainage and flood control, as well as a walking/bike path). The green space goes the rest of the way to the edge of the city, so there's a lot of wildlife that comes by, and through, our yard.
We get lots of White-tailed Jackrabbits (actually a kind of #hare...) in the winter. I shot these today out my front door as it was nice out, just below freezing, and I could leave the door open to take pictures through.
This fellow - or lady - is quite the handsome beast. I think he knows it. He's looking dead at me in the first photo, because I'm five meters away with a device that's making weird clicky noises and I'm moving a bit.
In the second picture, you can see their #fuzzy #lips are exactly like a domestic rabbit's.

I'd been looking for it all year and I found it right before the end of 2024-- a seriously badass straight-up punk record that came out earlier this year. KRASH are from Saskatoon and these Canadians are PISSED OFF. 'Nothing is Sacred' is a GREAT fuckin d-beat punk record to end out 2024. It rips through all eight of these tracks and never lets up.
Cree family of 20 left without housing after fire, with some living in shacks during winter
A Northern Saskatchewan family has been without permanent housing on Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation since summer. They have been living in shacks and tents without power, running water or heat since their house burned to the ground in July.
