Philadelphia’s roller-derby league turned 20 last month. For @TheConversationUS, Colleen English wrote about how roller derby became a revolutionary feminist sport.
I came up with a name I would use in roller derby! I can now consider whether I want to do roller derby.
I'd be "Misty Meaner."
Thinking about ways to do geek introductions and I suggested just sharing your laptop stickers. So here's my refurb ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 2.
There's a bit of space for new ones but I hate overlapping them so I'm very picky.
Ontarian roller derby teams decided to avoid travelling to the United States of America
over their border policies.

So I should re #introduce myself; used to host my own instance at artemai when that was a thing; decided to get back on Mastodon again because the rest of social is a dumpsterfire.
I'm a #UNIX sysadm originally (from the late 90s) but started using #Linux in 91, bringing early
dialup internet to #Newcastle with community group hunter #apana.
I'm a #coder, #python is the go-to language these days, some #js but plenty of #C and some #golang too.
Ten years ago I landed in #liveevents and #visionswitch / #camera #direct #sports presentation in major
#stadiums along with building software for data-driven #content for use in those environments.
I'm a #ham radio operator. Callsign VK2WAY. I'm mostly interested in signals processing and digital communications.
I used to officiate #RollerDerby but have streamed it since 2014 as Downunder Derby TV. I still manage socials for and help co-ordinate Queer Roller Derby - @queerderby.
I'm #queer #pansexual
#poly
#nonbinary
and use they/them pronouns.
Philly Roller Derby celebrates 20 years of challenging gender norms and promoting inclusivity. The league has been at the forefront of revolutionizing women's roles in sports since 2005. A kinesiology professor skates through the history of the sport: https://buff.ly/4abw5FP #rollerderby #feminism
Going to start complimenting the amazing leg strength of my favourite blocker by calling their thigh muscles Magellanic, after the Large Magellanic Cloud’s supermassive black hole.
This hypervelocity star-flinging is like a whip in roller derby: the black hole is the pack, and the binary stars are the blocker giving a whip to the jammer to get them past the pack.
But much faster - no skater I know can get a whip that ejects them out at 1,000km/sec, and no pack has a mass that is 600,000 times the size of the sun.

Me (as @sassquatch) and @Sin60 have set up https://scrim.social/ as a #PixelFed instance for the #RollerDerby community.
We're #LGBTQ inclusive, fan-run, and very excited to help players, refs and fans alike escape Meta and Zuckerberg.
We've got a few users already but I'm hoping to boost our reach across the Fediverse so our posts show up in other peoples' searches etc.
Please boost this toot across the Fediverse to help discovery of our new server!
A reminder of WFTDA's statement on gender
"Any individual of a Marginalized Gender, regardless of presentation or the gender they were assigned at birth, is welcomed and encouraged to participate in the WFTDA in any capacity, including skating on a WFTDA charter or holding elected office. Participation as a volunteer or employee is open to individuals of all genders. Marginalized Genders, by their nature, are constantly evolving and changing, so attempting to include an exhaustive list would limit the scope of this policy."

Alright, #introduction time!
Hi, I'm Gitte, aka Lacrimae (if you know me through #gaming) or Mercy B. Coup (if you know me through #rollerderby). I live in Copenhagen, Denmark with my partner and 3 adorable cats.
I like skating while wearing stripes and whistling, #houseplants. #cats, #feminism, and (bad) puns.
I have (late diagnosed) #ADHD, I'm tall, awkward and suffer from impostor syndrome.
I work as a Senior Software Developer, mostly focusing on #SQL development (no, I'm not a DBA :p)
@alchemistsstudio yes yes yes! I love that we are all doing our best and connecting wherever we are!
I can't forget #rollerderby for the cardio it's important when you are disabled and need exercise and community.
My roller derby team has just sent a questionnaire to everyone in the league to learn about any sensory issue that could affect our training sessions and how we learn new skills.
I love this so much, it's such a lovely inclusive environment
