Two of my hand knit and recently repaired/ re-inforced socks are part of an exhibition in my city‘s museum of local history. The exhibition is about textiles. Their production, worth, and consumption. All that in connection to my city‘s long history in textile production and the rise and fall of its many respective factories.
It opened today and runs until April 27, 2025. Heimatmuseum Reutlingen [www.reutlingen.de], Germany.

Most of the exhibits are presented openly on tables. I hope my socks survive this. I still want to wear them next year. They are two of my favourite pairs. 🫣

An orange table top form above. There are two socks mounted on it with clear plastic strips. On the left a sock knitted out of dark teal and dark orange striping yarn. A small cable runs on the side of the sock all the way from the toe to the cuff. There's a patch of brightly coloured (yellow, red, purple) yarn on the sole. On the right a sock out of fuzzy pale green yarn. Cables and run all around the legt and on top of the foot. There are patches on the sole, but this itme in the same yarn. That's why they are almost invisible. A plaque next to the socks reads (translated from German): "Repairing garments has gone out of fashion, which is due to the cheap fast fashion and its quality. The replacement of clothes with holes seems to be a cheaper and less labour intensive alternative nowadays, than to repair them at home or in a repair café." These socks were knitted many years ago and repaired this year in a repair café by me.
