You can still quote post; just opt-out from any controls, or don't use them

I'm not directly replying to them specifically, but want to amplify their post/toot with additional msging beyond just boosting.
I feel like #Mastodon quote toots proposal is overengineered. Why not stick to a basic implementation used by Misskeys and Akkomas?
It would be too much work for a feature that effectively duplicates the functionality of replies.

Put the quoted text first, then put the commentary or reply *after it*.

If someone quote-posted a post that is keyword-filtered to be "hidden", it won't show up right?
Or should it show "This is filtered/hidden", which is not really "hidden" anymore?
I'm glad the Mastodon developers have given more of their gameplan on quote posts, it's a feature that I still really miss from Twitter and enjoy having on Bluesky. 
inb4 they make it opt-in instead of opt-out though so they become functionally useless just like the full text search currently is

@daniel Yeah it should not be impossible to do. You can fetch the post content via API, should be rather trivial technical-wise. Sure, there is a lot more to it, but it has been done and more than possible to do.

Got tired of seeing quoted posts from Threads as the formatting is jacked here on Mastodon (forcing you to click to read the full post; no thanks), so I just created a simple regex filter in @ivory that hides posts w/ a warning. That way I can still click on them if I’m not feeling annoyed.

Alright. Its Saturday night. Plans fell through and ive got a belly full of tacos. You know what that means. Its time for another round of making #QuotePosts work good. Tonight im thinking we'll do backlinks and quote controls like respecting #NoQuote in bio and seeing if we can hook into the notification filter system to apply those policies to quotes

The funny part is that the (not actually a) crossposter I'm using for Fedi/ATProto stuff is that it natively has quote posts. Friendica has had quoteposts forever, I suspect other AP software has had quoteposts forever, yet Mastodon refuses to implement them.
