i am participating in a challenge to take at least one photo a day in 2024 on the 365 platform, and this is today's photo
weirdly, it's getting a lot more interest than my wild bird photos, that platform just doesn't seem to have the same interest in rare species as we see here on Mastodon
i titled it, "do you want to know a secret, do you promise not to tell"
at last an adult male moving through the yard
the Northern Cardinals had one of those nests where they got one of each-- one male, one female fledgling. Now, the adult male has been taking around the young male while the adult female has been taking around the young female
in this image, the female fledgling is fussing for no reason, Mommy just fed her!
For the first time, the daddy Cardinal is chasing the little one to feed him-- and the little one is refusing the food. Instead he is choosing to catch his own.
"I am big birb now!!!!! Look at me, wheeee! Catching my own food!"

Squirrel through dirty window glass is my Project365 photo today, wanted to see how bad it would work out to shoot from an air conditioned room through glass into a hot sunlit day
there's some softening but could be worse so bring on the rarities (yeah, I know, July, rarities ain't gonna happen for a minute)
Today's #Project365 is with a different lens and also for settings I tried the White Balance > Fluorescent > Setting 5 Daylight White Fluorescent
seems closest to the daylight LED bulbs I'm using, the image tones are a little yellow but the "peach" in the lovebird's boop spot actually came out peach without any need for color correction in post so...
Ya call that windy? Yesterday's storms weren't too bad at our house, and this Mockingbird is already shaking them off...

Male Red-bellied Woodpecker makes another getaway... he is not going to sit by & watch pesky Downy Woodpeckers plus a whole entire Eastern Bluebird family eat all the suet... Even a Blue Jay visited this morning. The. Absolute. Nerve.
He got his cut of the fresh suet before going back to the nest to tell his mate...
