In my past dating history, I've been fetishized for being Asian & also for being disabled. I'm not an object, like some men treated me as. I chose to stay single for years after my last split because I deserve better, was patient & had rebuilt a pretty content life by myself that I'm not willing to compromise for anyone who doesn't completely value my full worth. I won't negotiate on my own worth - I am a golden soul & deserve an equal.
Disabled POC women who have overcome much traumas, including being exploited/fetishized, like me, tend to have a very difficult time trusting new people in our lives. If we choose to trust you, it wasn't done quickly. We learned to trust some people, who are patient enough to be openly honest, respectful of us & understand why we move at a snail's pace.

Do you know who has a lot of credit when it comes to me learning to be more courageous about showing my flawed, imperfect self online, now?
It's due to a bunch elementary school children, at the now closed McTavish Elementary School in #CentralSaanich. I did my practicum there after obtaining my specialized teacher's assistant certifications. I worked with FASD, autistic, down syndrome & physically disabled students there. They represented 30% of student population there.
I did an interactive cultural, racial & disabilities bridging awareness program while there. Part of it was showcasing my life as a child war survivor & how me & my family survived war. The other part was showcasing how I was diagnosed with polio. How I was told I'd be living out of a wheelchair for my whole life. How I beat that diagnosis by sheer willpower & suffering much physical pains while forcing my body to learn how to walk against all odds. How I'm in front of them, walking & talking. I invited the kids to ask any questions they wanted & advised staff/parental witnesses to not interrupt kids during Q&A period. The kids asked amazing questions & I answered all of them, openly & honestly. I had a few parents & teachers squirm when one kid asked to see & touch my leg braces. I showed the kids both my leg braces & told them it's OK to touch them & ask me more questions.
This is how I bridge things & create less fears of disabled peoples, from a young age. Most kids are more curious than outright judgemental. Most kids develop understanding of disabled people, if they're taught well.
FYI - I got this new family doctor due to pursuing an in office lead from my osteoporosis specialist. He works in same medical clinic. I asked to be put on their internal wait list a few months back. I kept following up, weekly.
I want to be very clear on the fact that the BC government didn't help me obtain this new doctor whatsoever. I was on their huge waitlist for over a year & nothing happened. I pursued 4 different doctors from private leads & that is how it happened. However, our shifty, lying BC government is trying to take credit for work they did not do in me finally having a new family doctor. Their self congratulatory, canned email was insulting to receive today. Bunch of dishonest wankers.
The BC government has treated disabled patients like me as disposable for years. They've greatly harmed our disabled community as a whole much more than they've ever tried to really help us.

I'm now on 5 different waiting lists to obtain a new family doctor. 1 BC government waiting list & 4 local medical clinic lists. I've been waiting for about a year now. Some of my increased stress is due to not having a GP & having to jump through multiple hoops to obtain essential medical services.

#Accessibility committees without inclusive diversity of disabled citizens is not a genuine accessibility committee but an ableist one, created by folks who have never lived with any form of disabilities & therefore have no real idea of what us disabled folks need/seek/want changes on. Too many municipal, provincial & federal so called accessibility committees do not have diversity inclusion of #DisabledRepresentatives. That has to change.
I'll find out in November if I will get a spot at 2025 VISSA at Mt. Washington. I want to try out their adaptive Nordic program, if I get in. I also want to practice more sitski because I'm interested in doing races if I can get good enough to qualify for competitive racing in the future. I loved riding it down from the Eagle lift summit a few times when I was accepted into program in 2020.
I love Winter & being up on the mountains in snow. I just don't have many opportunities to go up mountains in snowy Winter.
