Diese #tracken auch nicht und der #Datenschutz ist wesentlich besser!
I was a bit slow on this one, but I finally disabled Google Maps on my phone! I've been using Organic Maps (https://organicmaps.app/) for a little while now and I've had a great experience. I just have two issues:
1) Unless I download Organic Maps from the Google Play Store, I can't use it with Android Auto when I'm in a car. I want to disconnect from Google, so this is not ideal.
2) It seems like @organicmaps is the official Mastodon account, but they don't have their website verified.
It only took a few minutes to copy the places I had saved on Google Maps into a note in #Fossify Notes (https://www.fossify.org/). As usual, I'm finding that plain text notes are exactly what I need and give me a better experience than these bloated corporate apps.

I am right now using @OrganicMaps because it's the only navigation app I have tried that loads the map almost instantly, doesn't lag, and has great support for on-foot and bicycle routing.
But the navigation options are very minimal (avoid unpaved roads, motorways, tolls etc). I'd like more options like detailed in the post above. Or being able to just press a button while on the bicycle to be navigated to the closest bike parking in one click.
I got a (maybe dumb) #OpenStreetMaps question: I am using #StreetComplete regularly, but I noticed that the information it asks me for is often already shown and known in my OSM app (#OrganicMaps).
Am I not adding new and previously unknown information? Where and when does my contribution go live, and how?
Anyone know why #OrganicMaps GitHub repo was archived?

One thing I started to contribute more is #openstreetmap with all my local knowledge: shops with opening times, water fountains, vending machines… I’m glad when I see those in #organicMaps a couple of days later

Ich sah mir europäische Alternativen zu Apple Karten an. Zum Beispiel HERE WeGo, Magic Earth, Mapy.cz, Sygic, TomTom, OsmAnd und Organic Maps. Ausschließlich für Wien (Fußgänger, Lokal-Listen) und Städtereisen mit dem Zug (Lokale, Sehenswürdigkeiten, Favoriten). Das Ergebnis: Fast bei alle ist mir entweder die Anzeige zu überladen (ich bevorzuge Minimalismus), die Bedienung sagt mir überhaupt nicht zu oder es werden mir zu viele Daten unnötig erfasst.
Mein Favorit ist ganz klar Organic Maps. Das werde ich mal in den nächsten Wochen parallel zu Apple Karten am iPhone & iPad verwenden und dann entscheiden, ob ich fix umsteige.

Ich teste gerade #OrganicMaps als Datenrate Alternative zu #GoogleMaps und #Apple Karten. Die wurde offenbar von Nerds mit Sinn für Humor gemacht. Das gefällt mir 
Schöner und sinnvoller wäre natürlich, wenn da auch auf deutschen Autobahnen immer 130 stehen müsste.

Google have apparently automated getting rid of negative reviews resulting from their decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico. The only sensible thing to do is to try to stop using the products of billionaire owned American companies, who are *all* demonstrating that they were willing to at the very least bend for fascists, if not actively support fascism.
This came up as part of my continuing process of removing everything which benefits American billionaires from my phone.
I'm now using #organicMaps instead on my phone. It's about 1000 times faster because it doesn't waste time in continuously trying to show you ads.
Organic Maps is a great Google Maps alternative that's free, open-source, and offline. I used it yesterday to find my way in an unknown neighbourhood, and it worked like a charm.

Just wanna point out that #Google has no right showing the Gulf of Mexico's official US name to the rest of the world where this name change is not recognized.
Anyone opposed to this should look into switching to #OSM where we map only what is factually correct (perks of being a global community and not a US megacorporation).
I recommend my personal favourite map app #OrganicMaps. It's very user friendly and the map style is both pretty and readable.

Get a NAS with #Docker support (like #TrueNAS. You can install web-services like @nextcloud which is a completely self hostable Google Drive/Google Docs replacement with addons to extend functionality.
#DuckDuckGo is currently the best search engine that isn't self hosted however #SearXNG is self hostable and very customisable.
#OSMAnd (customisable) or #OrganicMaps (straight forward) for Maps. Both use #OpenStreetMaps
#Android replacement, well Android. I personally recommend @calyxos which comes with an open source replacement to emulate Play Services called #MicroG
Although #Proton is technically a great service, CEO has come out as a Trump supporter so I'll leave that to your personal opinon. Another good service is @Tutanota
