sMany old buildings in Europe, even churches, have carved on their walls a face made of leaves or vomiting vegetation, called a "Green Man." There's a lot of debate about how this design began or what its purpose was, but many assume it originally represented a pagan god.

Otesánek is a log in a Czech fairy tale that is adopted by a childless couple. The log becomes alive, and the parents are unable to keep their new son fed. Eventually, the growing Otesánek develops a taste for human flesh. Czech director Jan Švankmajer adapted it into a movie.

Some Irish folklore this St Patrick’s Day: the Sídhe, the Aos sí, the fair folk, the good people, or the people of the shee from Irish folklore, who live underground. You may know the banshee, or Bean sídhe or woman of the sídhe. In fact the very word Sídhe is the term for earthen mounds like the one in my #linocut and the Aos sí are “the people of mounds.” The Sidhe evolved from a mythological people known as the Tuatha De Danaan,
