@Tutanota I moved myself over from M365 to #Nextcloud on #Hetzner. @nextcloud
Anyone using #hetzner with a dedicated server should stop as soon as possible and migrate to a different #cloud provider. The reason? Your inbound traffic is being partially sent to other instances (you will be receiving other instances’ first connection packets), and your machine is not isolated at L2 level and is able to communicate with other ones (only ARP was tested)
If you care about what you're building, don't host your stuff with Hetzner. Don't trust them.
They will take you down without warning and won't answer your queries. For sure, they'll send you an invoice, tho.
Happened before with @Ursalzona and other fediverse servers, happened now with this Peertube instance, and it's best to avoid being their next victim.
Go host your stuff somewhere else. And keep your backup routines working.
@fuchsiii @grumpygamer oftentimes said cores ain't even "dedicaded" but shared...
"shared core VPS" are a very big mistake, espechally on Hosters like #Hetzner...
So OFC said systems are overworked, espechally the convenience-based options where one just shoves on files and tells it to "bake it"...
If feasible, just grab' yourself a decently performing PC/Server/Laptop you can chug in a closet, SSH/RDP onto and use it as "build servant" ("Rechenknecht") to run your builds and then sent a notification [ntfy.sh] once done.
@jwildeboer #nextcloud and #hetzner : great decision that I can fully support and confirm to work extremely well!
It keeps coming up, so I'm going to ask the LGBTQ+ community:
Is Hetzner still giving people on the Fediverse issues with LGBTQ+ content?
I know, last year (2024), Hetzner pulled down more than a few Fedi sites because they disliked drawings or photos of women kissing women, or men kissing men. Is that still an issue?

For a while now, I've been tempted to move my #Astro blog from #Cloudflare Pages to #Hetzner. I'd love to play with #Linux again, just like I used to in the good old days. I could also add self-hosted analytics and maybe even include comments.
@gnulinux hoffentlich nicht mit #Hetzner...

Funktioniert die #S3 Funktion von #PeerTube (https://docs.joinpeertube.org/maintain/remote-storage) auch mit der S3-kompatiblen Object Storage von #Hetzner (https://www.hetzner.com/de/storage/object-storage/)?
Dear US friends. For a few bucks a month you can get, say, a terabyte of storage in a European datacenter at an EU-based hosting company to store pictures, documents, backups from you, your family and friends to keep them a bit further away from US authorities. It's not a 100% guarantee, but better than nothing.
I personally have #Nextcloud based storage at #Hetzner for that. Other companies offer similar solutions. Locally I just have the Nextcloud sync app installed.
@janantos@mstdn.social Hetzner is NOT friendly toward the LGBTQ community.
Many people here on the Fediverse learned that when a bunch of Fedi sites which has drawings or photos of women kissing women, or men kissing men, were taken offline.
I try to recommend providers who are open to generally any content, provided it is legal, of course. I am not going to recommend people looking to escape possible censorship or safety concerns, only to further feel unsafe and possibly censored.

Watching the latest @thelinuxEXP show and the first segment is about #Mesa, #Wayland and #Xorg losing their hosting. My naive self thought, perhaps I could sponsor some hosting for them at #Hetzner or something, then came the price and bandwidth they use ..
Then I remembered that there is clearly a difference between hosting and hosting..
TAKE ACTION | If you’re using the free #DNSBLs and querying via Hetzner’s infrastructure, you need to change your config, or from February 19th, you may face issues with your email stream.
Read why and the steps you need to take to stay protected for free in this blog:

For the past few months, we've been working on decreasing our dependence on #bigtech - most notably, our dependence on #Microsoft via #Github.
We've been experimenting with @forgejo (which is very enjoyable), setup the build proces on our own hardware.
Since yesterday, the main instance is also hosted by #hetzner. There are still a few dependencies, but the main hurdles have been taken!
@Linux_Is_Best Great overview! I‘m using #Hetzner located in Germany for years now for domains, cloud, Webhosting. great service, fast and stable infrastructure, great admin panel. https://www.hetzner.com
Someone on here suggested a smaller green energy powered VPS host to get away from #Hetzner I cannot remember if it was a #GoToSocial post or a #RYOMS / #HomeLab post and cannot seem to locate anything now.
Who has a good VPS host recommendation?
I signed up for a Hetzner account because they've got cheap web hosting, claim to use renewable energy, and seem to have a pretty good standing with web people.
To sign up with them you need to provide:
- Your name
- Full address
- Payment information (up front)
Then the account was flagged as high-risk, because obviously, so they also needed:
- A picture of my passport
- A selfie
- A mysterious verification process that took 5 minutes and required "human" validation
I get the need for a web-hosting company to want to screen its clientele, but that was invasive as fuck.
I've got an account now, but I'm second-guessing actually committing to using their services. I'll wait for the urine sample to clear before I make the final decision.
