Montage Monday | Bloodywood/Prophets of Rage/Manic Street Preachers/Rage Against The Machine
Today’s spotlight is the second in a new series called “Montage Monday”, where the spotlight may be brief but is packed with a lot of music. Because, sometimes, you need a montage (montage!).[1]
And for no particular reason, this Montage Monday we’re going to spotlight albums spanning 30 years that have some anger issues – or, rather, address issues with very well-justified anger -, working backward in case doing so can turn back time. Each title is directly linked to its Bandcamp/Songlink in case you want to just jump straight in and forego the montage completely, though the montage this time around is really just suggestions of some key tunes. Titrate additional tunes/anger in as needed. Ready?
Bloodywood – Rakshak [bloodywood.bandcamp.com] (2022, India)[2] / Prophets of Rage – s/t [prophetsofrage.bandcamp.com] (2017, US)[3] / Manic Street Preachers – The Holy Bible [album.link] (1994, Wales)[4] / Rage Against The Machine – s/t [www.discogs.com] (1992, US)[5]
Bloodywood – “Dana Dan” (Youtube video [www.youtube.com]; Songlink [song.link]): You might think you don’t like nu-metal, until you hear this song/album/band. This band is bloody amazing, and the video for this song always gets me jacked up (CW: mention of sexual assault and violence). (Watch for their third LP, Nu Delhi [bloodywood.bandcamp.com], coming out later this month – one track [bloodywood.bandcamp.com] features BABYMETAL!)
I put a fist through the face of a rapist, and yeah, I tape this
For the viewing pleasure of the nameless faces he disgraces
And yeah, one day I may change his kind with my mind, but
I won’t bow to the beast, never make peace
Prophets of Rage – “Unfuck the World” (Bandcamp [prophetsofrage.bandcamp.com]): See also the entire rest of this album, the only LP from an explosive supergroup of members from Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill formed in the wake of the 2016 US election. So.
Give a damn, evil can’t stand, yeah
When the people take a stand
C’mon!
No hatred, fuck racists
Blank faces, time’s changin’
One nation, unification
The vibration, unfuck the world!
Manic Street Preachers – “Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit’sworldwouldfallapart” (Songlink [song.link]): Contents as stated.
And lastly, for the Rage Against The Machine track, we’re obviously going to have to go with “Killing in the Name” (Songlink [song.link]), seeing as, still, some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses.
Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me

The cover art is a moody painting of a large elephant emerging from the shadows, with very long tusks and gold pain on its forehead and trunk, standing behind a person kneeling down on the stone floor, looking ready to run at or pounce at something. The cover art is a simple two-tone background (cream and black, each colour taking up a half triangle) with a cartoon raised fist in front of a red star. The band name is in black font in the top left corner.] [1001otheralbums.com][
The cover art is mostly a cream-coloured background with the album name at the top center in black font, band name below that in smaller font, and the track listing in very small font taking up the bottom portion. In between the band name and track listing is a triptych of paintings depicting a person wearing a bra and underwear and looking down, with an odd perspective as if the viewer was on the floor looking up. ] [1001otheralbums.com][
The cover art is a monochromatic version of Malcolm Browne's photograph of Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, self-immolating in 1963.
