If you're in IT, Networking, or Cybersecurity and not learning HAM radio, you're skipping a core piece of BCP/BDR. If the internet or cell service goes down, how do you restore ops? HAM fills that gap.

I put up a dipole this time, and while I did receive marginally more stuff than before (only in the 2m and 70cm bands), there was also a lot of noise. The length of each leg of the dipole was calculated like this, with the velocity factors estimated for the copper wire and insulation.
(299792458 / 52_000_000 * 0.95 * 0.95) / 4
I did get the copper pipe for making a sleeve balun. Would that further improve things?
"When it comes to Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) issues, experimentation is key!"
I really wish it wasn't.

Time to stop putting it off and finally focus on getting my General and then Amateur Extra radio licenses. It’s been a goal for months. Once that’s done, I’ll shift to studying for my CCSP since I already have my CISSP. Gotta keep leveling up! #AmateurRadio #HAMradio #Cybersecurity #CCSP
Just ordered a couple signal sticks to improve my TID Radio H3 & H8. The 771 antenna hasn’t impressed me. Hoping to build a full SIGINT lab by end of year: HAM, GMRS, MURS, CB, EMS scanning, LoRa & more. Radio is underrated in cybersecurity & networking.

Sunset #sota to round the weekend off, Kerloch GM/ES-059 with contacts from Peterhead to Dundee on 2m. The RH770 is a solid antenna.
10km walked, 450m climbed and summit activated in under 2 hours. Pleased with the pace.
More wind than I expected, shorts and no gloves was a brave combination on the summit for this time of year!
I made lots of excited sounds when I hit the shoulder of the hill and the landscape came into view, bathed in light about 15 minutes before sundown. It was a joy to be on the summit at that time.
Today my #GMRS group participated in a #LarimerCounty emergency communications drill.
We ran a net on our repeater with simulated road updates and a medical emergency. Our #ham operators passed traffic to the EOC and back.
There were several neighborhood groups participating but I believe we were the only GMRS. Our weekly practice net really helps it go smoothly.
Ok for real I’m going to go through more boxes and find my old HT so I can practice both sides.

Well, I tried building my own ¼-wavelength monopole with the metal railing and everything it's attached to as the ground plane, but it didn't work very well.
I'm targeting 6-meter with this, but I thought it'd make sense to use the middle of the band (52 MHz) as the target, so I did (C / 5200000000) / 4
to get the length of 1.44 meters.
What did I do wrong? #HamRadio #AmateurRadio
Is the #ARRL having issues right now? I keep getting SEC_ERROR_OCSP_SERVER_ERROR when trying their web site...
#AmateurRadio #HamRadio
so, a few months ago I got an email from the local ARRL Bureau for QSL cards, and they said I had some waiting, so I sent them the $3 and waited... lol
I just got the mail today, and oh my gosh, there has to be 30 to 40 QSL cards for the past 5 years here! this is going to take some time to catch up on,
Has ham radio reached its technological apex? I realize there is new cool stuff on the horizon, but a lot of it feels like re-mixes of existing technologies not something advances the art and science of radio itself in a citizen-scientist kind of way.
Am I wrong?
wow, just found out that in #Australia they have #UHF #CB. i've watched videoes on youtube and people are very active on the radio there. i wish there is a similar service here in #Italy where people are very active on the radio and you can just talk to anyone. now, when i get a chance to visit there in the future, first thing i'll buy after ariving is a UHB CB Radio. :-)
@caranmegil Planning a quiet day today. I'll play some #amateurradio, tend the animals, and watch some golf in the afternoon. As much as it is possible I try and take Saturday off.
