Looking for some more advanced techies to help me out here. I was browsing the files of old abandonware (as one does) and came across the .zym file format in a game called Gubble 2. Does anyone have any idea what this file format is? Is it something proprietary by the gubble devs? Something that just isn't used anymore? The only thing google brought up regarding .zym was some mods for quake.

urgh. after a week of very interesting research and digging, i've located the source code for a very popular 3d rendering/modelling program from the 90s and 2000s: Caligari trueSpace

does anyone in the digital preservation world know someone at the Microsoft Open Source Programs (OSPO) office?
i'd love for this to be officially sanctioned as an OSS project.

Hey #retrogaming users ! I'm trying to clone my fresh working #Windows98 setup using Acronis on exactly the same drive (tested OK several times), but it keeps corrupting the data and Windows won't boot (never happened to me, after 10y of using Acronis). Would #Clonezilla do the trick ?

Did you know that the concept of "OS-tan" has existed way before even ME-tan was made?

Take OS Idol Win-chan as an example. Win-chan's earliest appearance in media seems to be from a promotional CD by Enterbrain, which dates back as early as October 1998. This would mean that Win-chan predates Me-tan by almost 5 years. It's not specified what Windows version she represents.

Another example can be Magical Toko-chan who is from around 1999. She seems to represent BSD, has a theme song called "Rainbow Holy☆Trident" and has a sister that represents Solaris.

There is also also another "Wintel Miku" although there’s little art of her. She seems to represent WindowsNT4.0/95/98 and was created as the creator was inspired by Mgaical Toko.

Besides Win-Chan, Magical Toko, Solaris-Chan and Wintel Miku all have sites dedicared to them!

Trying to get a #Windows98 VM up to play some old #games like #OregonTrail #MathBlaster #SimCity2000 but its been a hassle with drivers I don't want to deal with. I'll probably just install it bare metal on the old machine I have lying around.
