(If your font isn't monospaced or has same-widths numbers by default.)
I hate seeing jumping clocks, countdowns, and timers even in AAA games. (#gamedev)

Hello, Fostodon Community!
I’m Muhammad, a 14-year-old programmer, excited to share my project: FOSS-UI! It’s a free UI library for React, built on Radix UI, aimed at creating beautiful and accessible interfaces without proprietary constraints.

New on Cybercultural: During the mid-1990s, David Bowie's website went from a storytelling structure for the Outside album, into a striking, grunge-inspired design for Earthling. At the same time, Bowie fan sites emerged. https://cybercultural.com/p/david-bowie-website-1995-1997/ #InternetHistory #WebDesign #BowieForever

Hey Web devs!
Do you have any suggestions, tips, opinions, dos, don’ts about headless CMSes?
I have a growing list of small/mid non-profits and collectives asking for my help to (re)make their website. I totally want to help, but I don’t have much time, especially considering that they generally have little or no funding—I would most definitely point them to @VillageOneCoop, otherwise.
Therefore, I want a super simple and replicable solution where I can copy-paste most of the code, while providing them with a stable, fast, and modern solution. I had a look at the Headless CMS section in the Jamstack website [jamstack.org], but I need opinions from people who actually used some of that software already.
Please, boost this and ask around! Links to videos, tutorials, and resources are welcome.
People whose perspective I would really value: @zachleat @harryfk @deno_land @jaredwhite @vanillaweb @stefan @mxbck @WeirdWriter @deadsuperhero (Sorry if I am spamming you!)
Web Design Whinging
One thing that's really frustrating about the History API in browsers is just the proliferation of websites that have a back button built into the site's UI, but all it does is trigger the back() function of your browser. If all your interface does is trigger the browser's back behavior, then just don't even have a back button in your UI.
My current frustration is directed at Home Assistant. I have a link on my Firefox newtab page to a subview in one of my dashboards, and it keeps kicking me back to the newtab page when I hit the dashboard's back button to go back out to the main dashboard. It's supremely annoying. Like, I dunno, if your UI has a back button that kicks you out of that UI, that seems bad to me.
Flashback Friday #3
– Geocities & Angelfire
Before social media took over, Geocities and Angelfire were where the internet’s real creativity happened. These free web hosting platforms let people build anything they wanted—from personal diaries to deep-dive fan shrines to completely bizarre conspiracy hubs.

@WeirdWriter @MsHearthWitch I'm not afraid of those. I just don't like spam. Doesn't matter if it's #crypto #boobs or #webdesign. Once people try to lure me to their service for no additional benefit I consider it spam. As I said, if they share interesting stuff, I don't care what they do and I often tell people to just add a link to their bio so I can look them up and what they do. Heck, I ordered a book from someone who I found interesting. This can all be done without spamming me.
Why do people default to React and JavaScript for front end and UIs?
As a backend developer whose frontend experience is mostly from using Phoenix and Django, which utilize server-side rendering, I’m wondering why most people choose React and JavaScript as the “default” frontend solution, even for pages and SaaS products that don’t really benefit from any additional client-side interactivity.

Ana Rodrigues: In defense of unpolished personal websites. “My imperfect and unpolished code on my personal website isn’t the full reflection on my technical abilities or knowledge of web development standards.
