K-9 bomb sniffer dog units have become the latest victims of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, just as the White House celebrated a national day honoring the heroic animals.

Workers at the TSA were informed via email that “new guidance” meant that requests for costs including vet visits, kenneling and dog food, had been put on hold effective immediately

The developments comes hours after President Donald Trump reposted a picture of himself with a now-deceased dog to mark National K-9 Veterans Day.

A few brief words about the American Airlines flight 5342 crash in Washington DC

It’s important to remember that not everything we see or read on social media is true. News happens fast when there’s a disaster of this magnitude, and a lie makes its way around the world before the truth can put its boots on.

Be careful what you’re sharing and who you’re amplifying. Family and loved ones of people who were on that plane are no doubt on social media too. Don’t add to their trauma.

If you can, include a trigger warning if sharing the video. It’s painful and difficult to watch and many people would rather not see it.

Wait for search and rescue to do their job. We don’t want to give people false hope or unnecessarily panic them either.

I assume a bigger conversation will happen in the coming days, but it is worth noting that Trump fired the heads of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Coast Guard, and disbanded the Aviation Security Advisory Committee.

It’s way too soon to know what happened, but this is an example of why the WAY the Trump admin are governing is so dangerous.

They’re executing so many freezes, firings and executive orders so quickly that people can’t keep up.

They’ve exhausted and stressed out the public to the point that critical news will be missed.

I suspect many of us didn’t know about his TSA and aviation security firings until this crash happened.

This is one more reason to follow and support credible, dedicated independent journalists who you can trust to keep you well informed during these increasingly hectic and disinformation heavy times.

After doing a little more traveling for the holidays, I can reiterate with that travelling trans in the Denver Airport was very easy. No problems with TSA, I asked one of the agents about my sharps and she explained there's no issue just leaving them in the carryon for scanning unless there's an ice pack for the accompanying medication, which would probably be flagged. They seem to have done away with the massive scanners and have been utiluzing metal detectors and smaller more streamlined scanners the last two times we've flown, so not even a concern about them flagging my body as the "wrong" on according to the agent's perception.

O'Hare was a little more awkward, because I did have to request the metal detector, and then I was "randomly" selected for screening, so had to go through the big guy anyway. Fortunately the thing didn't flag me as missing any body parts, so I didn't get a pat down. And the TSA agent correctly gendered me.

So far the most uncomfortable has been Texas, since their machine did flag me as suspicious and I did have to do the full pat down, which means they aren't running on the supposedly non gendering system TSA implemented a few years back.

I don't see a whole lot of travel tips floating around for trans folks flying in the US, so I hope these are some helpful tidbits
