I do use a pseudonym for gender reasons.
Reason? It’s dangerous being trans, writing trans. It spares me casual doxing. (I'm am sure anyone who really wanted to track me down could. I’m not so careful about the bread crumbs I let drop.)

It has taken me a long time to find a voice for an MC trans narrator. I have had trans SCs but my WIP is the first where the narrator MC isn't cis.
There were several reasons.
1. There are parts of life as trans that I prefer not to dwell on. The fear, otherness, the need to always be looking over your shoulder. And I am not the kind of author who glosses over these things. My stories don't take place in Avalon.
2. I write romances and sexuality is messy for a lot of us. It certainly has been for me.
3a. Not wanting to have to prove I had a right to write trans characters. I am an open trans, but generally don't talk much about it. And of course reasons 1 and 4.
3b. Fear of being challenged about how "genuine" my character is. I have already received a polite question about the fact my MC is a butch transfem.
4. Fear of backlash from the haters. There are places I used to promote my stories that I have dropped now that my MC is trans for this very reason. There is that looking-over-your-shoulder stuff again.
6. And yes it's easy. I don't have to explain things. I don't have to worry am I under or over-explaining things.

so it's been a minute since I posted about my substack, innit? in my new post up today, I'm talking about and sharing a little thing I wrote last week based on yet another weird dream I had lol.
this was a really surreal concept and felt even weirder to write it down, but I like it, even though I probably won't do more stuff like this for a while.
as the CW suggests, there is mention of birds being killed. it's not graphic or anything, it's just more of a theme, but it *is* in there and I wanted to let folks know.

1. It's a collab with my partner @dontdoitneil that we've been working on since 2016. 
2. It's character-focused-yet-action-packed epic-length urban fantasy (a genre we're calling "switchblade-and-sorcery," just cus we like the sound of it 
).
3. Big themes are healthy-vs.-toxic masculinity (as embodied by transmasc protagonist Jules vs. his former abuser, Hunter), PTSD, nihilism, redemption, and alchemy as a metaphor for self-realization (as well as a kickass magic fighting style a la FMA 
).
4. Every major character is queer af. (Even the ones you don't expect!)
