Hmm, I have a lot more fire retardant paint left still, so I guess I will keep on going. (siding is painted, working on eaves). The big issue with paint (as usual) is how labor intensive it is, especially on the undersides of the eaves (up on a ladder, arms up...). After it's all painted, will need to cure for 4-5 days before top coat. Intumscent paint, which provides significant protection from ignition. #random #disasterpreparedness #painting #wildfires

Changed the oil in my vehicle (out in the driveway), just to remind myself how to do it. (Usually take it to the mechanic...). Need to remember what getting oil everywhere and on myself is like, LOL. Pretty simple, but always a pain to get the oil filter off and on and whatnot.
Did discover at some point the pack rat around here deposited a bunch of leaves in my air filter. Need to go buy another one (the guy at the auto place asked, and I didn't think I needed it... oops).

These goblets commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Jan Jacob van Westrenen and Johanna Catharina Mamuchet van Houdringe. The arms were executed with a diamond-point stylus, a small diamond chip in a holder used to incise the glass. This technique was common in the Netherlands in the 17th century.

#Random The best way to avoid mid-day snacking on junk food is to develop an avoidance for palm oil, LOL. (it makes me break out). So far I have rummaged through every piece of junk food here (candybars et al) and they all have palm oil, thus, I have not eaten any junk food here (yet).

No photos, but spent some time with the local California scrub jay (Aphelocoma californica) this morning in the backyard, in a cosplay as "Snow White"
(apparently the scrub jay not at all fazed by the large man standing in the garden AT ALL... the scrub jay was looking for any worms that came up due to the rain).
Redingote or Great-Coat Dress, anonymous, c. 1786 - c. 1789
The origin of the redingote lies in long men’s coats with a cutaway front, the riding coat. It is a striking example of the influence men’s fashion exerted on women’s fashion. A redingote for ladies consisted of an overcoat or gown, and a loose skirt in a contrasting colour, which enhanced the coat-like effect. Olive green and pale pink were a popular combination at the end of the 18th century.

#Random beekeeping muttering... had a hive split failure, but probably can rescue the bees because we had that swarm show up in our backyard three days ago. The split hive had two issues: 1. ants had crawled up the stand, despite our spraying the stand well with ant spray (toxic to bees too, but they don't crawl on the ground; it's the only thing we've found to keep the Argentine ants off the hives). 2. There was no queen cell. They failed to recognize they had no queen, for some reason. 3. There was no brood. It was rainy for several days after we did the split, and I wonder if we did not give them enough honey and they ate the brood? Or, not enough bees and they dragged them out because they died? Unclear. Anyway, they will have a queen tomorrow.
