Yay! I have waited for these for 13 years. [nerd alert] The tree came from the Irish Seedsavers Assciation who collected scion wood from a tree originally planted by Methodist minister John Wesley whilst he was visiting the Palatine community in north Co. Limerick in the mid or late 19th c.
This is quite possibly the variety "Clairgeau de Nantes". Rootstock is Pyrus communis - one of the reasons it took so long to fruit. But it's a difficult climate here for pears as well.

BACKSTORY: I had no hobbies when I retired, I know nothing of sports, so I took up growing #trees from seed. Fruit trees mostly. It's said, "PLANT PEARS FOR YOUR HEIRS"; it takes so long to see fruit. I've had 4 #pears on only 2 trees before this. Here's a limb or two of each of 2 trees. 🌱

I harvest Apples, Pears, Quince, Haskaps, Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Currents, Peaches and Nectarines (Fruit and Berries)

As an escape from mundane technical things today, I've built a galette with pear, strawberry and marzipan. We'll see how this comes out.

Fun to build and I like the free form nature of these sort of panless pies or monster tarts if you wish. Mostly an excuse to eat pastry.

A large oval piece of pastry has a pile of slivered pears and a ring of strawberry slices on it.
The same disk of pastry but now the edges are folded up partially covering the fruit . There are little bits of marzipan in there too for extra fun.
