@Nonya_Bidniss@infosec.exchangeDuring a 5-mile hike today I was listening to an audiobook, the 3rd book in Robert Evan's series on the Third Reich. So this one is into the war, and in the first couple of chapters it goes over what the Nazis did in Poland. The sadistic brutality of those people was horrendous, and there were so MANY of them engaged in it.
Of course we know about the concentration camps in Germany and occupied countries, the death camps where the Nazis murdered countless Jews. But you think, each of these murder camps had a staff of officers and guards and that's a certain limited number of monsters and they tried to hide what went on in there for a long time.
But in Poland they didn't have only the Nazis in uniform. They colonized, bringing in thousands and thousands of German civilians who stole everything from the Poles and left them destitute and they utterly brutalized the Polish Jews, stole everything, beat and starved them, and they did not give one f*ing shit about it, in fact they were happy to do it. They were happy to do it. Jesus. The whole account in the book was shocking.
And I got to thinking, all those colonizing German civilians who had swallowed the Nazi propaganda and jumped right in, I see no daylight between them and our MAGA cultists. They're mean, shitty people who would watch you being beaten up in the street and laugh about it. The propaganda works on them because it fits their worldview and their biases. What turned the German people's minds into such hard little bricks has happened to something like 30% of our own people. It's sickening. Truly sickening. #Nazis #fascism #MAGA
