"Indigenous people here speak of the lack of memorials on this land.
But every bordered property is a site for dark tourism in Australia.
Dark tourism is the effort to seek out destinations of violence and devastation, but it is not hard to see genocide from our front door in this country...Tim Rowse has called the “ongoing colonial encounter sometimes called ‘Australia’”

Gumbaynggirr Country is located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. It is also known as the Bellingen/ Gleniffer Valley and has curated three reserves in the 21st century with memorials which are all named after white settlers:
The Arthur Keough Reserve (Never Never River) is named after the first settler pioneer families to arrive in the Gleniffer Valley.

From a colleague:
"Have you been involved in collecting, documenting, digitising or engaging people with spontaneous memorials, after tragic events such as mass violence attacks or disasters?
If so, please consider completing this online survey: Spontaneous Memorials: Collection, Documentation, Access and Secondary Trauma (https://www.qualtrics.manchester.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_8jKRaWvBS8jTtae). The survey takes 10-15 minutes to complete."
Open through July 31. Please boost!

I create a lot of grief work. I find it rewarding to hear from and know that I've brought someone comfort.

Our pets are like family. I've been inspired to create grief and celebration of life work for many years. I mostly design and write poetry for humans, but I do not forget our beloved cats and dogs (birds and fish too). I offer custom work as well. It's my honor to create memorials. I am humbled.

Even our snacks are heart-shaped when we’re volunteering at the #CovidMemorialWall …
#London #volunteers #memorials #coved #mourning #grief
#introduction The #CovidMemorialWall runs between #Westminster Bridge and #Lambeth Bridge on the banks of the #Thames in #London, facing the Houses of #Parliament. It is maintained by a handful of dedicated, bereaved #volunteers who paint and restore #hearts and write dedications, one for each person in the UK who has died of #covid. Come and walk the wall - a powerful and moving experience.
