A Pointed Ciliate Blue (Anthene lycaenina) spotted at Springleaf Park Connector, Singapore on 14 Dec 2024. A moderately rare butterfly, and I usually have to check the field guide to identify the butterflies in this family (the Blues).

Is your day really complete without seeing some velvet worm feet?
I found this excellent wee critter on the coast-to-coast field trip over the weekend for my Biological Diversity course at #LincolnUniversityNZ.
Its name is Ooperipatellus viridimaculatus.
For a bit of a laugh, here's the #iNaturalist community calling each other names - actual names of living organisms. Great inspo for new insults grounded in science.
I can tell it's spring because the Unequal Cellophane Bees (Colletes inaequalis) are out and about in my neighbor's yard! Please enjoy this bee investigating a crocus. (Sadly these flowers are introduced and may not help this native bee, but this bee is determined to find out.)
If you're wondering why they're "Unequal", inaequalis in Latin apparently also means "impermanent"; they only emerge briefly.

@ai6yr This topic just dropped on iNaturalist about two hours ago. The privacy risks of iNat were always obvious to me, but I also figured it was obscure enough that only someone very focused and determined would look at the location data there. Not true any more. This is really weird, unanticipated collateral damage from the times we live in.
... and shortly after the 5000 OSM changesets, I'm now celebrating 2000 observations on #iNaturalist!
More spring wildflowers from my weekend trip to Graz and Vienna. #inaturalist #wildflowers #bloomscrolling
Crocus bloom in a forest near Graz, Austria. I'm so glad flowers are back after the long winter #inaturalist #wildflowers #bloomscrolling
A Yellow Featherlegs (Copera marginipes) spotted at Ulu Sembawang Park Connector, Singapore on 24 Nov 2024. A small, uncommon damselfly, so nice to be able to spot one.

Finally spring! Erica bloom in Austria, yesterday. #inaturalist #wildflowers
An Asian Ant Mantis (Odontomantis planiceps) nymph spotted at Springleaf Park Connector, Singapore on 17 Nov 2024. When young, the mantis is black and looks like an ant. This one is starting to turn green, the colour of the adult.

It feels like it's time for a new #introduction
