Is anyone using #funkwhale to store Old Time Radio (#otr)? It feels like an ideal use: different servers can store only the series they care about, everything can be browsed from a single site, it doesn't depend on either archive.org or the commercial providers, it improves discovery, etc. #radio #audiodrama

There are many visionary, highly unique "next-gen" #activitypub platforms that go beyond the tired "social media" paradigm, but they seem to struggle with traction / resources.

#funkwhale and #mobilizon are good examples with ~100 or less servers and infrequent releases.

Ich möchte gerne ein möglichst vollständige Matrix der Features der Fediversesoftwaren erstellen, an prominenter Stelle für alle Interessierten zur Verfügung stellen und Neueinsteigern die Wahl der zu ihren Bedürfnissen passenden Fediversesoftware erleichtern.
Also - wer eine der unten gelisteten SWs kennt, benutzt oder entwickelt und 15 Minuten Lebenszeit erübrigen kann, möge sich bitte bei @LasseGismo melden um das Projekt zu unterstützen.
Ich werde einen Cryptpadlink zur Verfügung stellen um die Änderungen/Ergänzungen direkt in die Tabelle einzutragen.
Wer zudem der Ansicht ist, daß eine Software fehlt und dazu inhaltlich beitragen will, ist natürlich gerne eingeladen sich zu melden.

@funkwhale NP. I was thinking about serving a niche which is not well understood/served right now.
I used Mixcloud for a long while but enshittifcation took over. I'm self hosting a static site and did use #webmontization for a while.
Switched to #Peertube which is good but it felt like #funkwhale could be better for this?
I was listening to a person talking about funkwhale at #fosdem2025, assume it might be you? Looking for a better scrobbling service than non-floss players. Not a coder sadly

Надо бы на досуге завести #Funkwhale, кинуть туда CC-лицензированные треки в публичный доступ и остальное под регистрацию. Так намного интереснее, чем кидаться постами в микробложике.

Но есть ещё момент помимо хостинга, что меня останавливает, @rf. Есть ли что-то вроде караоке или субтитров в этой штуке? Я очень хочу накинуть на временные метки свои эмоции и слова к песням. Если не Funkwhale, то есть, может, альтернативы для такого шеринга?

@HeliaXyana Honestly, lately I've been thinking of creating middleware - or integration - for #Funkwhale to interface with PRO's (or "Performing Rights Organizations").

In Norway we have TONO, which takes something like 5 Norwegian cent per minute played + yearly costs.

You read that right, I am thinking of starting my own streaming service using #Funkwhale lol

It basically means that I'll hopefully get to cover the costs if I get enough users a month.

This guy I talked to the other day set up his own private #Funkwhale, which he used as a cloud media player.

Buying albums, EP's and singles to then put it up in a private cloud storage is the ethical way to stream music.

I know, I know. It's not the answer you wanted, but it's the only right answer I'm afraid.

Not a whole lot of people use it yet, so give it some love. Or better yet, set up a server if you can so that other people can enjoy it.

Si como yo, ya estás harto de los fastidiosos anuncios de Spotify así como de servicios de música y podcasting que han monopolizado los audios y buscas una plataforma donde escuchar y compartir música y podcast, te recomiendo la alternativa libre de #Funkwhale
Que además tiene la gran ventaja de que toda la música o podcast o audios que subas van ligados al fediverso, si, puedes seguir cuentas de funkwhale desde mastodon así como desde cualquier otra red libre, abierta y federada como pleroma, diaspora, friendica, etc.

Really hoping that #funkwhale fixes it's federation issues with glitch, akkoma, and sharky. Afaik, only masto proper and maybe pixelfed actually can see funkwhale channels. Not even directly searchable.
